Title: Fitting R32 rear lights
Post by: em2evol on January 26, 2009, 12:22:09 pm
Hi everyone

Great forum!

I was wondering if anyone could help. I'm looking to fit some R32 / ED30 rear lights to replace my current ones on my 2005 GTI, but having looked around the boot area, it seems this may be a little harder than I first thought...

Can anyone tell me how this is done? And is it just out with the old, in with the new? (I've heard that lights fitted 2008 and after will require spacers to fit my car?)

Many Thanks

Em

i replaced mine on a 2005 car and as above took 20 or so mins.  They come with bulbs installed, just remove a few nuts and they come out

They may look hard but trust me there are not.  Remove the holding screws (dont drop them!), remove the wire connector (a screwdriver helps to do this by pressing the clip) then slide out.

You can even do it in the dark!  (as my boyfriend found out the night before E38 last year  )

You'll be looking at something like this when the units are removed : -

I fitted these oem VW LED's from Germany - Plugged straight in (after swopping reverse/fog inner lenses) : -

I think the LED units look great on Red and White, maybe silver too - just not so sure about black.

There's a set for sale already modified with the reverse/fog swap in the back of VW driver mag

Went to the fine city of Cardiff today and this evening coming home I was behind a Passat Estate (R36?) in the dark and thought its rear LED's functioned really well.

My daughter had an interview and got offered an unconditional place there and then! So she starts in September.

I like LED fronts as well  [They're DRL's not fogs!]
