Main points -
- No product recall, since there is nothing wrong with the phone. Signal degradation happens will all phones, no matter which manufacturer.
- Free case with every iPhone. If you already have a case you can get a refund.
- 30 day money back guarantee. If you are not happy you can get a full refund with no restocking fee etc.
- Working on a fix for the proximity sensor issue in some phones.
- White iPhone will begin shipping end of July
-
You only get a free case upto September, what happens after that or will the quietly redesign the iPhone before then and have them out in the wild by the time the offer ends
-
How do you get the case ?
-
^^^^^^^
Apple will have a website up next week
-
Umm, not sure what to do.
Had my first iPhone 4 nicked four days after launch, long story around no insurance cover, so have been waiting to see what happens with the signal stuff, might just get a white one or maybe even wait until sept
-
Im getting a white one asap - miss my iPhone! (I sold my 3GS just before the new one launched!)
I have a Black bumper (looks great on the white phone!) already - purchased via O2 as it was cheaper then Apple.
Not sure if I should return it for a refund or not, as Apple have a shortage of Bumpers and I may not be able to get a free one through them - they said they would source alternatives as well - not sure what these will be.
Or, should I keep the black, and get a second case - maybe a different colour bumper - as my free case..?....
-
Apple won't refund 3rd party cases, but was the bumper you bought from O2 a Apple one, if so then you should be able to get a refund
There are not many 3rd party cases out there
-
Yeh - its the proper Apple one, just purchased through O2 as it was £5 cheaper!
http://shop.o2.co.uk/accessory/Apple_iPhone_4_Bumper_Black
I received it yesterday, and it has all the Apple markings etc on the packaging as normal - so yes its an original.
Not sure if O2 will give refunds though. Im assuming they purchased a bulk lot from Apple to resell or something, so it may depend on whether Apple will absorb their cost?
-
It seems like they'll secretly change it
-
What about our screwed Up bluetooth issues on 3g's!!!! :fighting:
Can 3.1 software be re-loaded from Itunes?? . Or visit to Apple shop and create sh!t??
-
You'll need to find and download the 3.1 update from the net.
I think you then open iTunes, or click the restore button, with the shift button pressed (or something like that) to search for the downloaded firmware on your system, and instal that.
-
Thanx Ifti!!. Just downloading 3.1.3 version to re install.
Ill wait for 4.06 version no doubt before it works again!!
-
My Bt works fine.................
Updated to 4.0. not bothered to go further.

Thats the answer, ill go buy a porsche instead :happy2: end of problem

A nice strong, measured response from Apple, backed up by hard facts.

Nope just buy a newer kit for the Mk6 as mine works fine too
-
Mark my words. The world will soon realise the bumper doesn't fix the antenna issue. Even with it on I get the following message.....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fgg277%2Fnogolfclubsatall%2Fiphone4.jpg&hash=a163b42b8b19af1a122dda93461753da03e24bc3)
Great phone but big issues over reception. I'm deffo taking it back until it's fixed.
-
Kinda glad I didn't do anything stupid like sell my iphone 3GS for a 4!
TBH it's a crap 'fix' since it detracts from the iphone's appearance/design. Though I can't really say anything since I have Otterbox for my phone!
-
I've got a phone on order and I also intend to buy Apple Care. Apple Care should be pretty good if you have problems and may well do swap outs if there is a 'fixed' version due out in September.
-
Im still waiting on the white - checking the Apple site every day so I can pre-order!
I have my bumper already, since i was going to be using one anyways.
-
I think Apples response to the 'problem' is a load of bollox!! Oh yes the antenna design is crap so we'll give a free bit of crap rubber to go around the phone which renders any other type of case for it useless!! :fighting: :fighting:
Shocking to put it mildly, I've just shelled out £500 for a flawed design which the makers are stating doesn't work properly!! Don't know how they can get away with it! :angry015:
-
As Apple have proved this happens with ANY smartphone. So I think it's a bit harsh to say there response is crap.
I linked the video to the conference in another thread where they show the same problem on a Blackberry, Samsung & HTC.
This whole thing in my opinion has been blown out of proportion by the Anti-Apple brigade. They have chosen to just highlight the iPhone as having the problem and neglecting other phones with the same problem.
Putting the bumper on reduces the problem - that's a scientific fact proven by Apple and a no. of other tech review magazines. So I actually think its pretty good of Apple to give everyone a free bumper at a estimated cost of $183m to them. You don't see that from Nokia, Samsung, Blackberry, HTC etc.
You don't have to use a bumper you can use any case that covers the area in question.
Just my opinion of course.

I am tempted to be honest Shaun, but the only other phone I would consider would be the 3GS..................
-
I think, as I got mine at launch, it would be safer to take it back now then wait for a fix. It is an issue. Just don't go near the apple support forums and say so :-) they will abuse you like a purty boy in a ho down sauna.
-
If it is such a bad problem then surely every smart phone maker should recall their phones aswell
Don't get me wrong I'm not an Apple fanboy. Yes I have a few products (iPhone, iPad, MBP etc) but that is because I find them to be better than most alternatives.
If someone can show me a Smartphone that doesn't have the problem and works as well as the iPhone does then I will consider changing no matter who makes it.
A lot of this has gone way out of proportion and in order to be fair people should now be attacking other smartphone makers to get them to fix there phones aswell
-
My 3GS held in the death grip of my left hand doesn't cause me to lose the signal
I always hold my phones in my left hand
I tried a 4 in the Apple store yesterday, and there was more signal loss when holding it in the left hand rather than the right, especially if you shorted out both sides of the plastic gap
I think a bumber free or otherwise looks , looks like clear tape may be my only option if I decide to upgrade from my 3GS :sad1:
-
I can't replicate the problem with my iPhone 4 though and that was before I put carbon fibre on it
Apparently it's only prominent in weak signal areas but as I don't have a problem I can't complain
