Had previously gone over a bump in the road and the steering light came on yellow, switched engine off and light off so went on my way. A week or 2 later went over a bump/pothole yellow light stayed on, was driving fine so thought id leave it until I went in for a service as my car is a daily commute vehicle. Today went over a bump/pothole( I swear I try my best to avoid these) and the red light came on. Car was put on the back of an AA truck and taken to Verve Glasgow.
Anyone had similar problems? Searched returned 2 close matches with one being an absolute horror story about a guy having spent over £1k on various components that stealers recommended.
Edit: AA guy also said that I should ask for the 'hidden extras' to be unlocked too, the AA guy sounded like a car enthusiast to me anyway. Any idea's what he means by these hidden extras?

So got a call from VW today. Its the steering rack problem
Going to cost me a a grand to fix it, sucks. Seems to me there might have been underlying problems with the car.

is it's anything up to a late 2006 car, VW replaced the steering racks if asked as they has issues. They however did not tell people the cars needed new racks, probably keeping the costs down. Mine was replaced within a year just for me asking the question

Mines is 2007 so don't think that's included.

How long do VW honour the pre 2006 replacement?
I am out of warranty, but with full VW service history?
