Title: S-Tronic vs Manual
Post by: Poverty on July 19, 2010, 01:37:25 pm
As some of you might or might not know Im waiting for the TTRS s-tronic to be released, because in a straight line it will be considerably quicker than a manual due to the lightning shifting.

However out on a blast today in the K1 and I was really enjoying rowing through the gears, going through bends etc etc

Now this made me think. Will the S-tronic box albeit it being faster take some of the fun away from driving when not going just in a straight line?

Also the s-tronic box sometimes can get issues which would leave me in a bad position if warranty work is required and the car is heavily modified.

Basically I would just like the opinion of people who have owned both s-tronic and manual vags and what they prefered.

Secretly I hope people will say, ye the s-tronic is great but the manual is more fun, so I can stop waiting and just go out and get one!

But if the verdict is s-tronic all the way I will go back to trying to wait

I didn't know they were going to an S-tronic, I thought there was too much torque? I heard the Audi's box is mounted differently so it doesn't have any issues, not sure how true that is.

Its a new 7 speed s tronic box, which was originally designed for the transporter!

Well I think this review should help you, I know it's a TT S but his verdict on the gearbox should help you. Also Chris Harris is a proper driver.

The only thing i have found is drive mode is a tad lazy and sport mode is a tad hectic/ noisy LOL, its better when you use the paddles though, would i go back to manual,  possibly, do i like DSG though,  yes

I have a TTS Roadster with S-Tronic and a Golf Gti with DSG in which I have just installed MFSW with the paddles which it was lacking. I have driven both with manual, and I understand some people prefer manual, I can only speak for me. :happy2:

Fun is added rather than taken away as far as I am concerned. If I was in a position to get an RS, I would definitely get the S-Tronic when it is available. :jumpmove:
