Title: Nitrous is starting to perform-Update for 1/4 mile!
Post by: Hurdy on July 19, 2010, 02:01:25 pm
Thought I'd resurrect this as I've just done a run with the new settings now I'm feeling better.

Shonky 0-60 as I was being careful off the line as it was slightly uphill and I have to have the traction control off for the NOS. Also the rear speaker is in along with the added weight of the NOS system means the car is almost the same weight as if it had the rear seats in instead! NOS kicks in at around 50mph, but a picture tells a thousand words.....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi156.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft8%2Fhurdy_album%2Fc74270df.jpg&hash=1e4a3026e3a7b2f7833bb1be1ce164fd72ec4ce4)

            St2+  NOS
20-40    1.5     1.6
30-50    1.4     1.5
40-60    1.7     1.4
50-70    2.0     1.3
60-80    2.3     1.7
70-90    2.9     2.1
80-100  3.2     2.5

30-70    3.4     2.8
60-100  5.5     4.2

As you can see the main difference is in the 60-100mph and is truly ballistic, with a decent launch 0-100mph in the 8's is on the cards.

A 4.2 second  60-100mph is faster than.....

Ferrari F50 at 4.3
Porsche 996 GT2 at 4.5
Ariel Atom Supercharged at 4.5
Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera at 4.6
Lamborghini Murchielago LP640 at 4.6
Nissan GT-R Spec-V at 4.8 seconds
Audi R8 V10 at 4.8

You get the picture

Before the performance box reset I noticed that the standing 1/8 mile speed was 97.7mph and the 1/4 mile was 14.0 after backing off and dropping back down to 74.5mph.

Seriously looking forward to the next Pod day. Interesting times ahead

Unfortunately not I can't get out of my rostered morning shift, so I'm working till 2pm :sad1:

Just put me down for a solid 400+bhp

Last time I was there I did 340bhp, but there have been a few changes to the car since then and that is before the NOS

Hi John,

Just had an email from JKM re the dyno day and they don't allow NOS on their dyno and didn't want you to drive a long way for nothing.

[I got your message.. Am in recording studio this evening (with 2 young girlies.. Singing sisters )].

Great news John, knew it would be only a matter of time and patience to get it bedded in and performing as it should. Just a shame I will not be at the August pod meet  :sad1:

I've just dug out the April 2009 EVO magazine where they put 4 cars against each other

Regal's GTI when it was 407bhp and 380lbft did 30-70 in 4.5 and 60-100 in 6.3 through the gears

Regal's BT VXR at 420bhp and 406lbft did 30-70 in 4.7 and 60-100 in 6.5 through the gears

Regal's S3 at 400bhp and 342lbft did 30-70 in 4.1 and 60-100 in 6.5 through the gears

I'll forget the Focus ST as it was slow

Mine - Approx 400+bhp and 400+lbft did 30-70 in 2.8 and 60-100 in 4.2 through the gears (DSG  FTW :P)

To give them a little credit, they did the test in freezing and wet conditions, so I'd guess those figures you could knock a second off, but as it was cold they should have had better intake temps and less heat soak as it is 25.5 celcius today!

DSG makes a huge difference to times and good to see you got the NOS working although damp conditions may play more of a part than heat soak imo especially with 400+ftlbs through the front weels.

My gripe is that they always test high powered FWD cars in inappropriate conditions and then the RWD and 4WD supercars abroad in the nice warm sunshine. :fighting:

Todays results....

0-100 in 9.4
0-110 in 11.1
1/4 mile in 13.0 at 99.1 after backing off from the above 110mph.

Compare that to my 12.9 run at York where my terminal was 110.9mph and it means I'm reaching my previous terminal speed around 1.7 seconds faster on NOS

May need rods, pistons and uprated clutchpacks eventually but these are the next targets...

i)   A sub 9 second 0-100mph
ii)  A 4.5 second to 60mph
iii) An official 12.5 second 1/4 mile (or less!) whilst still on the K04
iv) A terminal of 118mph or over.

would that not push the engine past where its safe to be.  you must be on the limits of the internals now

Ohhhhhhhh  yesssssssss!!

and it is still all within the same parameters as before, except I've brought in the power over a slightly longer build rate, which works VERY well. Not taken any pics today as I was concentrating too much on the settings, but I think the build rate difference has made almost as much difference as the extra 25 horsies.

I love this mod

0-100 now nearer target at 9.2 off a 5.2 to 60mph :jumpmove: and i hit the limiter in 3rd which slowed the one run I managed down :ashamed:

I don't know exactly how much is left, but I can still hear the NOS swilling about, so there's still some liquid in the tanks. I reckon I've done in the region of 30-40 runs and test runs, so I'd guess that there's another 20ish left in there. If I wasn't testing the system and set-up I reckon the bottles would last me 4 months as I don't use them on the road. So that would mean 3 refills a year = £240, which in my book is well worth it. :jumping:

Rods rods rods rods rods rods  :signLOL:

Already spoken to Steve at Statllers about these a few times and Trevor at WON. Trevor reckons the 100bhp shot is the limit on OEM internals, so if I want to use 150bhp nozzles rods will be dropped in first :happy2:

The NOS is amazing, I can feel the accelleration of the car under the turbo and just when I think that's fast, the nitrous kicks in and I can literally hear myself laughing out loud. I've been in a few Porsche turbo's and believe me when I say the NOS makes it faster. 40mph upwards is basically scaring me and I HAVE to hold on to the wheel as it pushes you backwards so hard it is difficult to describe in words. :driver:

Hi Hurdy ,
how does your AFR looks like with a 100hp shot ?
are you running stock or rs4 injectors ?

i would have jumped on this mod.
would be nice to run apr stage 4 + NOS
too bad NOS is an illegal metrial in israel.

Hi Poko,

I need to do a few logs this weekend with AFR and EGR blocks. I can't see much being wrong with the AFR as the correct ratio nozzles are being used and at the correct pressures. I'm sure there will be a proper Boyle's equation somewhere to calculate it out

I'm running stock injectors as the NOS has a separate fuel feed to the ECU system.

I'm sure the UK will get around to banning it in a car at some point too  :sad1:

Where is this 'private driveway' you do all these runs on...?  :innocent:  Can I have a go...?

Sounds f00kin awesome so far, and I'd love to see the look on a supercar owner's face when the silver 5-dr Golf tears up the strip way faster than him...

Are you using a direct port setup hurdy? If not where about have you located the jet to get even distrubution,
Only reason i ask is i have a single jet progressive system.

Update...

Had to go a little further afield to a longer, flatter, straighter strip of tarmac to get a qtr mile time up. Only had 3 attempts, and the 2nd one was the best. Trevor phoned me and told me off about not using the nitrous in 1st gear and gave me a few setting ideas to use nitrous off the line instead of revving the engine and using the turbo - definitely worked and is more stable a run off the line.

Increments to 100mph.
