Title: Now replaced my DV
Post by: Chris on July 19, 2010, 07:49:12 pm
Got it up on the ramp and now all changed, big hole in the one removed and was a Revision 'B'

Everything seems to work fine, getting boost but still hisses slightly with the revision 'D' when on full throttle. havent noticed the actual dump valve noise on lift off now either

does this sound correct or could there be something else

does it pull all the way to the red line with full power?

Turbos make a whistle/hissing noise so it's probably completely normal

The dump valve noise only happened on the very first dv valves, anything after b was silent when you change gear or let off the accelerator on boost

took off a b and replaced with the d

pulls like a train now instead of a reliant robin

I've got an 2005 GTI DSG so i'm guessing i have the B version, But i want the better performance of the D version.
But i like the sound the engine makes compared to my old Mk4 GTI.
What exactly would be the difference in sound if i upgraded to D.

I think you loose that nice little sneeze it makes when you ease off or put the clutch in ...

Ok, So it won't effect the lovely turbo whistle when i press the gas pedal?
I could live without that "little sneeze" as i don't think i can hear it when i'm driving anyway.

Has anyone taken theirs off and been surprised that its actually been broken?  How noticable is a damaged DV?  To me my car feels like it pulls just like it should past 3k but I have felt its been a little laggy before I get there and it only really takes off if I hold it at 3k for a couple of seconds then bury the throttle - like letting it build a head of steam I suppose!  With all this talk of replacing DV's and the fact that mine is now 5 years / 50k miles old I suspect its past its best if not quite fubard.

On a related note, has anyone had any experience driving their car up a set of ramps like

Does the valance catch?  Will I need some extensions like
