:happy2: :congrats:

VW oil (Quantum) is rebranded Castrol oil.
Be carefull with Mobil, there is only one type of oil approved by VW and thats the 5W-30 ESP stuff. European standard oils are better than the American API standard.
-
Stay away from BP products (Castrol, Arco, Aral, am/pm, Amoco, and Wild Bean Cafe).
Atleast I will cause they pretty much ruined the Gulf of Mexico. But this is only my opinion :happy2:
-
I use Quantum 5w30 as supplied on ebay by a Skoda dealership (ebay name number1for skoda) at a reasonable price.
-
stay away from Mobil, i use VW 5/30 fully synthetic on T&D
have a look on Teutonic Tamers service regime thread on 'other' forum (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=65779.0)

Speak to Opie Oils, they will seperate the fact from the fiction about Oils, base stocks etc.

I may give this a try at service.

Totally the wrong oil for a Golf GTI. Use anything that meets the VW 504.00/507.00 standards. Have a read - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=65779.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=65779.0) :happy2:

I was just about to point this out.
H4rdy please dont post up your thoughts, as you might have known that is not the correct viscosity, but guests sometimes dont and could see your post and try it. :happy2:

Mine too in two years...:happy2:

I have read on other forums that the Castrol 5w 30 EDGE is prone to burning and therefore using more oil. But I am in no way qualified to verify this.
All I know is I burnt more when I was using Castrol as opposed to the Mobil 1 ESP I am now using.
The car seems more lively with Mobil in IMO.
Anyway here's the datasheet:

Quantum longlife III 5w30 from the dealers, negotiate, usually about £25-35 for 5L

Had to top mine up Mobil 1 esp the other week when i was 65 miles from home.
