Right then, since my left knee has given up, I'm going to need an auto as a daily driver and therefore the GTI has to go. What should I replace it with? My criteria is this:
Must do more than 30mpg average (I drive 30k miles a year)
Must have a decent level of perfomance (i.e. better than most 2.0 tdi's)
Must have leather interior
Must not be dull as dishwater!
round about the £10k mark
I'm thinking something like a very high spec GTI (equal to or better than mine) with DSG or a BMW 330d.
Any others?

Don't waste your time looking at anything else !
Golf GTI DSG ! Five door
You can take it anywhere and it is none judgemental !
Then if you want some fun at the weekends, flip to manual and flip those paddles !
No other choice IMO !

The only problem with that is I would have to find one with leather as I hate the GTI cloth. Then I would have to retro fit the RCD510, change all the leds from blue to white, retro fit bluetooth and parking sensors, then all the small changes I've made to my car. They took a lot of time to do and I couldn't really live with a GTI without those changes. I'd just feel like I was going backwards if it didn't have the high spec mine does.

ED30 DSG 5-dr, fully loaded. Job done. :happy2:

IMO if you're afraid of going backwards due lack of mods in your new GTI, after driving that volvo for a week or two you'd be feeling like you have fallen on your ass
I assume you might get a little better price from your gti cause it has some more mods?
The new DSG (stock?) GTI should be a little cheaper?
Can't you just take it easy and upgrade the new gti baby steps? Surely the process will go faster and easier cause you have alrdy done everything before.
Your car looks stunning! Isn't there any way you could fit a DSG to it?

Thanks, I wish fitting dsg was easy, then I'd do it, I doubt I'd get a gearbox for less than £1k though and then it's not worth it. I don't really have the energy to do all the mods again, some of them took AGES and looking back I probably wouldn't do them again due to the energy it took out of me!
I wouldn't even consider the Volvo!

Nope, I HATE the interior. So I'd have to buy the car, then get a whole new interior for it as well and that's a no no.as stated in your build tread:

Thanks for the offer! If I can find a dsg box, I'll consider it, but I believe there's a lot more to it... like highline etc..

Just PM me if you want to fit DSG and we'll sort it out :drinking:

I recently saw a DSG box for sale on Ed38 i think and was up for £700, dunno if it sold or not tho
Edit: Was £850 but was back in November.

reckon you might struggle a bit to get a 330d for 10k. certainly one with moderate mileage and reasonably young.

Have a look on auto trader, there's quite a few of them!

well i doubt you'd end up regretting getting one. not sure if it's politically correct for me to extol the virtues of BMW on here though :innocent:

I wouldn't worry about it, I already own a 58 plate 330i coupe and have had 2 E46 330cd's in the past. I am very open about my love for them on here

I paid £10k for my 330d msport which is a 2005, 42k, one owner, every optional extra. Good deals are out there if you look for them.

Yea, that sounds like a sweet deal. I've been looking at 330d,335d and 335i but they've all been 2007's ...
Plus the fact I NEVER get a good deal on cars...ever!
