Title: Cambelt service prices?
Post by: M7AXB on July 21, 2010, 12:58:52 am
Hi folks :happy2:,

Hoping for a bit of help, i'm getting rid of my golf (for another  :innocent:) and need to get it serviced asap. It needs a full cambelt/waterpump and oil service. Anyone know of any good deals atm as i'm not keen on paying 650 quid ? I based in bathgate west lothian if that helps.

Cheers

Max

Had my cambelt changed a couple of months ago.  The price quoted was £600 odd but I informed them that another dealer would do it for £299 so they matched it.

Service pricing from VW's website which shows cambelt change for £299:

Loads of threads on this.

£400 for everything from a dealer is a fair rate.

Paid £425 including LL service, brake fluid, alignment, MOT, cam belt & water pump.

Play one dealer off against another. Save another £100 ish if you use an indi

Kinda prefer not to say. But if you look at previous posts you will see who.

Reason being.

The alignment machine broke mid way through, so part adjusted and no mot done.
They also wanted £125+vat+fitting for a cv boot.

Finally they calculated the part bill wrong. Really sh*tty treatment when I pointed it out.

Got the cv boot done for £20 fitted and told it wasn't a mot fail.

Needless to say won't be going back.  Or recommending them.

Probably a one off as they were recommended by another on this forum who swears by them.

Can also say the car has never run so well, except for an unrelated (possibly) problem of sh*tty MPG.

Bradford VW did quote a very similar price. But don't trust the LL service with them and the service manager swore blind the car was chain not belt drive. He had to check with service!!!

Good luck.

:happy2: :happy2: :happy2: Excellent thread....just looked at the fixed price servicing.
£299 which gives you 2 services and free MOT over the 2 year period is a bloody bargain !

My Ed30 has only done 25k and isnt due a service and mot till Feb but am gonna get this offer taken up!

Cheers guys!

Is the car 4 years old ? If not they recommend the cam belt done on 4 years... if it aint due its gonna save you £299...its an extra £150 for the dsg oil doing

Double check what the fixed service plan includes.

You may find cambelts & DSG are extra.

There have been a few threads on this.

Thanks for the help! Think I'm just going to get my mate at Audi to do it for me at a good price as a homer.

Anyone have a website where I can get a vw oem cambelt, waterpump and oil for the service cheap?

Cheers

Max

Am I right in thinking that every Vw dealership takes part in the fixed priced servicing? (£399 for cam belt and water pump replacement)

Most of them do - but as the small print says its up to the individual dealer whether they participate.

I did by an independent garage. Meant he wanted 480 to do the work. No thanks :P
