I'm going to get one of these from amazon, they're about £85 just now. Has anyone fitted it into their gti ? I've got the mfd2 and a couple of questions...
Will it need additional cables or connectors?
How will it get power? Will I have to find a switched feed and work out how to tap into it ?
Will I need my radio security code?
Or should I go just get it fitted?
-
They seem qiute straightforward to fit. you can get the fitting guide from the parrot website. I have one fitted to my company grand picasso but it has packed in after only 1 month. :surprised:
Great wee unit when it was working though!!
-
You need one of these
http://dbinstall.parrot.com/pdf.php?adapter=PC000018AA&ck=CK3100&lang=UK
You can find a switched live either at the cigarette lighter, on the back of the climate controls or in the fuse box.
You normally only need the security code when you put the radio in another car, I've disconnected mine a few times and put it back in, and it never asked me for the code.
It wasn't that difficult if you are a confident doing a bit of DIY, but it wasn't 'plug and play.'
-
Oh and you might need to swap the positions of the permanent and switched live on that connector above, check the diagram on the back of your head unit.
-
you can get the in-line wiring loom for this unit. No cutting required well not quite.
You only need to connect the CAN+ & CAN- wiring from the Parrot to the wiring loom.
Simply unplug from behind the radio. Plug the additional loom into the radio and then the original loom into the new loom. Run your microphone and you are just about done.
This process from beginning to end should take at worst case 30 minutes. Then you just need to program the unit. If you bought the steering wheel control module. Then it's all hidden and use your MFSW to answer or start phone calls.
Really easy overall.
the hardest part will be to program your voice control with numbers via the parrot.
Hope this helps.

does any1 have a link for the parrot kit and connectors required please

:happy2: thanks all .... Just trying take all that in :signLOL: I'll have dinner and a think about it all. Cheers for now
-
I have 1 in my car, you just need the SOT cable and then take a feed from the fuse box.
I've bought at least 5 of them in my time and have never paid more than £50 for each on eBay.
-
I had one of these fitted to my golf before I got my new head unit. thats where I had it installed.

if your anywhere near central scotland mate, I could give you a wee hand fitting.
there is a red and orange wire that you may need to swap with each other. to see if u need to do this fire the car up, make a call and turn the car off and remove keys, if the parrot display doesnt say goodbye and just turns off u need to swap they cables.
also if u send a truckie a msg he might be kind enough to sort you out with the wiring adaptor you need as I sold him my parrot to him but he wasnt puttin it in a VW so he will have this going spare.
-
I have my whole kit laying in the garage at home. Will take a picture f the whole kit so you get an idea as to what I'm on about.
Including the new wiring harness too.
So everyone gets the idea.

dont know if its the same as what you where lookin at but thats the one I used, and its cheaper than the one you where looking at.
have got truckies number, if u want to give him a txt. but suppose its only a tenner :signLOL:
-
Cheers matey, I will just order it as above.... just as long as I know that it will work with an MFD2 unit..guess then i just have to work out how to get a feed plugged into the fusebox on the right hand side/ cigarette lighter and hook it all up.
-
that lead that i gave u the link for will come with a long red wire that u need to run for the ignition feed.
crimp a spade connector on to it and slot it into the empty slot shown below and hey presto, one ignition feed for ur parrot to come on and off with ur ignition.

Fan-fooking tastic mate :happy2:

I've got one but can't help you in fitting it because I didn't do it myself

More dumb ass questions guys. Will I be able to see calls on my highline display and use the phone button on my mfsw? Will the mfd2 show the phone is in use? Or will I need to add something else to integrate this more seamlessly with my mfsw/mfd2/highline?
Pretty sure I can live without the integration. I'll put it on the nice to have list.
-
Never had the highline display in my car, but dont think you will be able to see whos calling, u will just have to do the unthinkable and look at the parrots display to find out whos calling (what a farse eh :signLOL: )
as for using the MFSW controls, I am sure you can get an adaptor that enables you to do this, if u look on parrots website u will prob find out more information on there.
to be honest it will prob cost more than the parrot itself, where I had my parrot, u could make calls easy enough with ur arm on the arm rest. so imo I would save my money.
dont take the above information as gospel, as I might be talkin rubbish about the highline, like i said I didnt have one so couldnt tell you.
-
:signLOL:
Yes I dont think highline displays WHO is calling etc it just defaults to PHONE and the display on the mfd2 changes to say phone...only thing is you can use the mfsw for navigating menus and intiating a call (I think)..
I reckon its not worth the hassle and cost tbh. I will just order the SOT and the 3100 and get on the right side of Strathclydes Finest.
-
yeah not worth the 3points and the 60quid fine.
I am from falkirk so if you get stuck installing, (which I am sure you wont)
give me a shout and will be more than happy to help you out mate. :happy2:
-
Cheers bud ^^^^ much appreciated.

Hi
I fitted one of these into an MFD2 as well and these were the big steps.
- Getting the MFD out and linking up with a pre-determined lead so it will do the mute, etc. Autoleads are you're best bet.
- Switched live by using a Scotchlok connector onto the cigarette lighter.
- Running the microphone behind the dash, up the A-Pillar then I superglued it onto the top of the mirror.
I put the control box on top of two blank switches - i.e. on one side is the W OFF and the other for the Traction Control.

USEFUL POST

Find a post called Parrot Install on the vagdrivers.net (an Irish forum)
I put up a really detailed installation guide for my Parrot MKI9200. Fitting is exactly the same and you'll get a harness from Halfords.
You should consider spending the extra to get the better car kit - I fitted the CK3200 in my girlfriend's car and the voice dialling etc. is not even close to the MKI9200. Also, the ipod connection and USB music is great.
Fitting is easy, the only risk is breaking one of the dash plastics.
