Title: S3 rear alloy hubs ATTENTION!!!!!!!
Post by: danishmkvgti on July 21, 2010, 06:13:05 pm
To anyone considering fitting the S3 rear hubs on a non 4wd car, the wheelbearings need the driveshafts to be held in place.
DO NOT fit them without a solution to this, the wheel, brakle disc and wheelbearing will reattach itself from the car and only be held in place by the disc being inside the caliper.

I didn't know S3 hubs were alloy!!

Did you find a solution to fit them?

I wonder if leon Cupra rear hubs could be alloy or not?

.
This is where I get a bit confused (again!). Are you talking about S3 rear brakes (whole kit) being fitted to a GTI?

No Robin, it is the hubs that the discs fit to

Cupra Front HUBS are alloy and even have "AUDI" written all over them.
they are directly from an S3 and share the part number as well (they didn't even bother rebadging them as SEAT).

the rear hubs are standard metal GTI ones and the S3 ones DO NOT FIT.

the entire rear floorplan is different from the S3 to our cars due to the haldex.

if you would want to fit an haldex in a cupra / GTI you would need to cut the rear floor / fuel tank and replace them with the A3 variants.

Thanks guys for your answers. :happy2:

Do you know if rear Scirocco hubs widen the track?
Because, golf Track (Front/rear) = 1533/1515
While Scirocco Track (Front/rear) = 1553/1561

Front is 20mm wider while rear is 46mm wider.

Any answer?

46mm is a lot. If the chassis is the same, then the widening must come from the hubs probably but the upper shell of the car is wider too. If widening our cars that much on the rear we will probably rub against the fenders/arches !

Presumably, these alloy hubs are to reduce unsprung weight?  Do they make a noticeable difference?

Nope, they are cast iron.

Are you sure?

The Rocco R uses cast iron front lower wishbones, and they look like they have cast iron hubs . . .

Put a Rocco R alongside an S3, and the bits look very different.

Front is just from the different wheel's offset (ET41 vs. ET51).
Rear I don' know, but I'd guess it's the hub (+ offset).
