Is it possible to upgrade from a K03 turbo to a K04? By that I mean a direct swap. I know there are different pipe runs and diverter valves located in different positions which would have to be worked around or is it a non starter of an idea?
-
no its a fairly straight forward conversion, many have done it, do a search on here there is a list of parts required :happy2:

This link might be useful although i appreciate it talks about more than just the turbo:

Ouch £1900 plus vat....DAMN! I think that conversion can wait a while.

Can do it for less than that!
I had my mate at a TPS price up all the parts and came to £1800 inc the turbo - so thats all brand new!
Get hold of some used bits and pieces and if you're handy with the tools you'll be able to do it for a lot less than that!
Just dont forget the other things you'll need with it like remapping the car

^^^^
But doesn't a new K04 alone cost around £1,000?
-
^^^ TPS prices are under £1k (subject to your discount level) for a K04 last time I checked.
-
Current retail price for a K04 is £1128.96+VAT according to my mates TPS screenshot
His cost price is £1061.22+VAT
But if you managed to find a 2nd hand one you'll obviously save a lot - i've just bought one from Owen for £400 and there was another recently that was £450 i think, cant remember.

When I needed to replace my K03, both JKM and Kev @ Revo advised me very strongly to avoid secondhand turbo's unless I knew the history regarding mileage and type of driver usage.
Turbo's can be refurbished by a dedicated specialist and then supplied with a new warranty, but it still costs money and can cost about £200 just to have a turbo's condition properly assessed as worth repairing.

the turbo is fine mate, i bought if off a freind who had gone BT, and the K04 had only done 5000ish miles so you dont need to worry about the turbo :happy2:

And even if it needed a service, £400+£2-300 is still less than £1200
