Right reversing rom the newsagent this morning plenty of lock on, heard a Grrr rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr noise thought maybe a wheel liner was loose had a quick look and didn't worry too much.
Got back to the car tonight tried to reverse out of the spot its in and the noise is back just three times worse, any way had a better look around and my o/side drop link has sheared off at the top ball joint and the ARB is sat on the driveshaft when I reverse locking into place.
Car is three months old.
Now I've lowered it on H&R's -35mm and Im running 19 Helios Wheels....
They're not going to cover it under warranty are they???
Also to fit the lowering springs is it normal to undo the torque link at the top? Im just thinking whether or not its been windygunned too tight.
So Im sat here waiting for the bloody RAC to turn up - not impressed...... knew I should have bought a E46 330cd coupe.
Any advice also whats the best way to sweettalk dealers into sorting these possible mod related problems out??
-
It will really depend on the dealer Dave.
Out of the four closest dealers i have around me two would honour 99% of warranty claim despite the mods but two would point blank refuse.
Hope you get it sorted :happy2:
-
there not expensive Dave, just change it and see how it goes????
-
don't think it will be done under warranty Dave to be honest...is thier any up graded ones on the market you can try
-
and it would have needed disconnecting to fit your lowering springs :happy2:

If you are talking about the rear ones they are £23.41 from a dealer and you can replace them in about 30-45mins
I bought 2 new ones when i decided to take off the BSH uprated ones. Reason i took them off is they did fook all and the bolt was slightly too small so even when it was tightend it made a knocking noise on bumps.
I have the Uprated BSH ones you can have for postage if you wish. But honestly it's not worth it when the OEM part is perfectly fine and costs so little.
Assuming it's the same part as on GTi/vRS etc the part no. is
1K0 505 465k
If you need the bolts they are part no.
WHT 000 226 of which you need 2 per Drop link priced at £0.79 each
The nuts are:
N10 286 110 again 2 per Drop Link priced at £0.46 each

he mentioned driveshaft so I think its the front
-
Wasn't sure with the Rocco having the XDS Diff.
I doubt the front ones would be much different though.
-
Right first and foremost, thanks for all the replies chaps
Its the threaded section of the though ball joint thats failed, I think its been done up too tight with a windy gun, so Im obviously suspect about the other side now, really didn't expect to be swapping suspension components on a 4 month old car :fighting:
I'll have a word with my freindly parts guy and ask him to have a word with the service manager, if they dont want to do the one side under warranty, ill just order a pair and get the guy who windygunned them on to get his torque wrench out . If they do do that side I might get the other side done anyway for peace of mind.
Cheers Chaps

take the wheels and springs off and go back to vw?
-
Front part no.s are
Drop Link (Coupling Rod on ETKA) 1K0 411 315 K - Showing as £30.37 on ETKA now it says quantity 2 but im not sure if that means they come as a pair or not.
Hexagon Nut, Shouldered - N 015 081 6 - Showing as £0.64 Each.
From the drawing it is showing the Bolts are part of the Drop Link.
-
^^^^
Yep, they only sell them in pairs.
-
dave im sure they are the same as the mk5 mate, ive got a used set in the garage if you want a temp fix :happy2:

Update......
The RAC man removed the offending broken drop link so that it could be driven slowly to VW this morning (2 miles tops), dropped it into the service department plopped the broken bit on the desk and said I've got a three month old car heres the broken bit and heres the RAC report ring me when its ready....
Having rung my freindly parts guy and asked him to get two on order from the next VW dealer down the road.....thats one for the warranty repair and one for me to replace the other side that was fitted in the same way.....so I knew the parts would be there today.
Anyway got a phone call to say its ready - job done under warranty, you can buy them individually and I got a spare one for £27
Thanks for all the help - especially Chris's offer for the used ones.
PS When I was there they had JUST taken a 07 Plate 3 dr manual ED30 into stock in tornado red not even valeted . So Lookers Blackpool if youre interested ask for John in sales
