hi i am 18 and got quite a good quote on a mk5 golf gti 2006 plate ,
i am just wondering what is the youngest age people are driving a gti at on here ?
thank in advance asha ,
-
How did you even get quoted? I'm 19 and it's impossible to get insured on anything above group 7, the GTI is 17. I did a quote for a laugh and it went into 5 figures. Rich is 18 and has a GTI Pirelli edition, that's group 18 insurance.
Edited to add Rich goes through his company insurance.

somebody is telling porkys
-
i am not lieng i am either buying a golf gti or an astra vxr i can get insured for around 2500 with my dad and sister on policy nd 1 yrs ncb of my own
-
that sounds a right quote figure for that i got quoted 2560 on a astra vxr racing edition last september which was out of budget so i waited another till i was 21 and boy it dropped tho obviously got a golf instead aswell :signLOL:
-
I've had my gti since I just turned 18 and payed about £2300 for the year, really regret paying that tbe not worth it and you have to consider the running costs....Tyres, petrol, servicing and you need to keep money away just incase you have a prang or something goes wrong otherwise your f***ed ! I would go for something cheaper for a year or 2 until the insurance drops then get what you really want. Trust me I've been there and got the t-shirt lol :happy2:
cheers
max

Sounds like a good quote that if true - but it is a lot of money to pay :signLOL:
-
I agree with max. I was absolutly gutted when i found out how much it would be at such a young age as i had actually put a deposit down and then had to back out of a deal. but in hindsight it is worth waiting till the insurance drops that little bit more even though you'll spend time on here wishing it was on your drive :sad1:. just spend the time instead of waiting havving fun with your mates down the pub and flyin out to Ibiza and raving it up! :signLOL: believe me it makes the time go quicker and with it... cheaper insurance :drinking:
-
thanx for all the replys i think i might wait abit like a year or something and then buy my dream car
-
LOL thats a ridiculous amount to even consider paying for car insurance!!
Most ive ever paid was £900 and that was for my first car - funnily enough it was also a Golf GTi, but of the Mk1 variety :)
I'd never pay or even consider paying more than £1k for insurance!
-
Not wishing to brag because we have all been there but I'm 28 & pay £268 fully comp (no voluntary excess) which I moan about, puts it in perspective for sure!
I remember paying £228 third party fire & theft for my 1st car (1.0 fiesta rolling on 15" Tsw's ha ha :ashamed: ) 11 years ago. Insurance seems to have increased significantly in the past few years & i'm surprised you guys are considering gti's at your age, is it worth the financial burden?
My 50 bhp was more than enough to have me screeching round corners & finding out I really had a lot to learn in the driving stakes at 17. sadly a few school mates were not so lucky & they paid with their lives
Have you looked at the insurance deals that fit a tracker & you can't drive between 11pm & 7am? this dramatcially cuts your premium down (not ideal I know!) You can lift the ban & pay for random times on the hoof if you need to use the car out of hours....
-
^^What's that called Drapoon? Almost like probation but it could be worth it :signLOL:
-
lol yeh it's almost an ASBO aye
All I know is my 19 yr old cousin has one of these insurance deals to keep his insurance sensible on a bogo Seat Ibiza
He went to some shindig the other wkend & my uncle was telling me he had to pay a tenner to his insurance co. as the gig finsihed past 12am - comedy!
-

look around the group 13 mark i.e fiesta st, colt czt, swift sport, polo gti. all have plenty of power to keep you going! well thats what i did till i was 22 now i only pay £800 on the gti
-
very true i think i might do that
-
Yeah i just ran a saxo vtr to boost my insurance, then got a ctr for a year, then an R32 for a year, now the S3 is £700 at 24 as ive not crashed the others lol

Im 19 and drive a mk5 GTI, my insurance is 1200 if i pay it all in one or it goes up to 1900 if i pay it yearly! I had my golf when i was 18 as well! :happy2:

I can understand why...girls are better drivers :P
-
^^^ Contraversial statement :popcornsoda:. your out-numbered 39 to 1 ratio in this place
:signLOL:

I think you just pay what you think is ok... I sold my Ibiza Cupra MK3 to a 19 yr old, the car was highly modified, but he didn't mind, and told me it was going to cost him over £2k to insure! Each to their own, fair play if they want to pay that.
Have to say, it doesn't get amazingly cheap to insure a GTI ... Im 29 with 7yrs NCB and can't get a quote below £500 FC! (Tried all the usual places!)
I think the insurance companies must think I live in a ghetto

How can you be getting insurance so cheap? Im 21 and my insurance is up for renewal in august, last year was 2200, this years renewal cost is 2011 fully comp
Ive tried nearly every insurance company under the sun and nobody can beat my current price from directline of all people
Please tell me your secrets..
-
It goes on loads of factors, postcode being a main one!
2 people, same age, same car, can pay vastly different premiums depending on their postcodes!

Yeh true, I met ed at Awesomegti's RR day a while ago and I know he lives not too far from me, I think I'm just jealous
-
I wish I had the problem of not being able to afford the insurance, it would certainly make me feel young again. :sad1:
I do think it's true that girls are better drivers, they wouldn't make it cheaper otherwise would they? :innocent:
-
Girls aren't necessarily better drivers - just that when they have an accideny, it's a little ping whereas for a guy it's more likely to be a write-off.
-
You guys are so lucky! I'm 38 driving a MK5 GTI in Singapore and the insurance is £1400! This is with full no claims carried over from the UK. I paid less in my mid twenties with an RS Fiesta in London.
There is a serious number of GTRs and supercars here as well, I've no idea how people afford it. We were pushing our budget buying a 2008 GTI.
...barstewardss
