no reason at all ?, have you had anything in bits ?, it can be turned off with VCDS , but i would be worried if it went off by itself and it should really be checked out

Happened to me recently. was just the cable getting pulled sliding the seat forward to get passengers in the back. Quick reset from a mate with the kit and all is good again
-
it had been in the garage to have some body work done, unless they did something or disconnected something so dunno. just want it sorting
-
where are you based

My mate just had this on his GTI, it was the wiring under the drivers airbag. The fault was cleared but it came back so a VW specialist re-wired it from the bottom. Cost £40 and apparently quite common on all cars.

I'm assuming the airbag light stays on after the initial checks have been done on ignition. If so, it's a problem which your VW dealer would best sort out if it persists after a friend with VCDS has had a look. You don't want faulty airbags.
If the airbag light extinguishes after the initial checks, it suggests merely a faulty connection.

Same here - mine was the side seat air bag on the drivers side - and i have 4 doors so it can only have been minor movements that kept breaking it!
the connector kept breaking - eventually dealer hard-wired it BUT it still happened again - eventually had seat out completely and rewired. it has not re-occurred since.
- if I am not wrong you want to get it fixed properly as none of the air bags work if one has a fault!

....I'm fairly sure you're wrong. My Recaro Sports seats don't have airbags, so the startup system checks temporarily flag an airbag disconnection. But my VW dealer looked into it and tells me that there's only a problem if the check light remains on. However, I'm not about to intentionally crash the car to find out.

My warning light was staying on that was the problem.....

I've removed various air bags ect, if one is inactive the rest will still deploy in the event of an accident they are independent of each other.
If you code one out or switch it off in vag com the start up checks will still notify the driver each and everytime but the light should distinguish. If the light stays on then one of the circuits have a break, so there are various way to troubleshoot it with a meter or simply a bit of wire but the easiest route is to get someone with VAG com to plug in and see which on it is.
check the connectors under each seat as they are the most common ones to develop a fault, the rest are all covered up behind the dash, carpets. door panels etc
