Title: Climate control on rns-510?
Post by: Gtiain on July 28, 2010, 08:49:23 pm
Hi guys. I've seen pics of the rns-510 with pictures of seats on and what look like climate controls? How do you get this on?

You need the latest Climate Control panel from a MK6 Golf or new Passat etc :happy2:

And mods to the climate control motors, central electrics and possibly add the air quality sensor  :scared:

Right I see that sounds like a lot of effort! Just out of interest can this panel be retro-fit on a mk5?

It's a straight swap of the panel but you need Dual Zone to start with

If not and you have the normal Climatic Air Con your looking at over £4k for a conversion as this is what you would need:

New Compressor to take into account the difference in fan speed
New Fans - yours has 4 speed and the dual zone is about 9 from memory
New Wiring Loom - To control everything
New Control Unit - on the dash.
New AirCon Control Module - to account for differences
New Vents - Yours are controlled by cable and the Dual Zone are motorised
New Air Quality Sensor - You have a diff one installed

Then labour on top which would be a long time as the whole dash needs to come out

All very expensive

If you already have Dual Zone then it's about £160 on eBay for the dash panel and thats all you need  :happy2:

That figure might be a bit more realistic! I can't get over that figure of 4k! Thanks.

You need Dual Zone Climate control in the car already. If you don't have this then it is too costly to do.

Then you need this panel

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fes.volkswagen.com%2Fetc%2Fmedialib%2Fvwcms%2Fvirtualmaster%2Fes%2Fmodelos%2Fpassat_cc.Par.0049.Image.jpg&hash=5c73286c91d1bde97084b481e13c1f121bae0c2c)

Which is from the Passat CC. You may also need a new Central Elec Control Module BUT i'm fairly certain everything needed is contained within the panel.

I know of a couple of people who have done this but it has been in Octavia's. One of those panels was on eBay recently for £160

Part no. is 5K0 907 044 BD ZJU which is for a Satin Black one. From a dealer they are around the £300 mark.

You may also need a new Can-Gateway depending on your car as the earliest anyone i know to have this working is at least an S revision

You will also need a new MFD3 Surround or you could do this (which incidentally is on a MK5 2007 Golf)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg248.imageshack.us%2Fimg248%2F1071%2F01082008007.jpg&hash=f25851a35c694d1a06ebd467009c6976b7c81740)

You may find 5K0 907 044 AK ZJU versions on Ebay in which the only difference is a slight change on heater buttons

You'd definitely need the new fascia panel, that chopped up one looks naff.

It is a trick feature but im not sure its worth the hassle for getting pic on screen alone, although the switches do look better too

The surrond from the current Jetta is designed for the new aircon controls and the MK5 dash, so you should be able to get hold of one of those parts, last time I looked at this the consensus seemed to be that you would need to convert the whole system over to the BAP protocol, is this not the case?

Not heard of anyone having to change everything to BAP. But as I said I only know of a couple of people doing it in Octavias.

From what I gather it is a straight swap of the panel. A bit of coding and job done. Maybe a new Gateway depending on how old it is.

There was some talk of pins needing to swapped on the connectors but not had any confirmation of this.

Hmmm Interesting Carl, do you have any links to threads?

Massive thread over at vwnavi, which goes round in circles and switches between Skoda and VW at a drop of a hat, and doesn't really confirm that everything works on a Golf  :chicken:

http://vwnavi.com/showthread.php/9170-Climatronic-on-screen (http://vwnavi.com/showthread.php/9170-Climatronic-on-screen)

post #336 looks the most interesting

That does seem rather alot of work for the rewards, but good to know its possible!

The Dash Panel and maybe a Can Gateway due to it being an 06 Car.

As far as I know nothing else. Like I said though I only know of a couple of people doing it

You have an S version so should be fine.

Not heard about joing wires but swapping them on one of the connectors. There is a link on this thread to the thread on VWNavi where people have done it. One guy (LALA30) i think put the diagram on for the wires. I have not had any confirmation of this.

Im not saying this will defo work but all i have heard anyone doing is putting that panel in, bit of coding & job done :happy2:
