When you turn ESP off with the button, what are we actually turning off?
Are there some functions still on, but that only work when the car senses an emergency??
As a sub question...I have noticed with my ESP that sometimes it is cutting the power without the light coming on. E.G. If i accelerate hard in 1st and 2nd, and i change from 1st in an 'agressive' manner, the first 1.5 seconds of drive in 2nd gear are very flat. And then, the power comes in. During all of this, the ESP light does not illuminate.
If i repeat the above with ESP turned off, I get no flatness of power.
(note. this was done on the same stretch of road, in the same direction, and immediately after the first run).
Many thanks,
Chris.

....
I don't know the exact detail but I'm very confident that the ESP button doesn't switch everything off and I'm glad it doesn't!
IIRC, ABS systems are kept on.

I think it shuts off the traction control 100% and backs off the intrusion if you get out of shape, so you can mess about getting the back out on lift-off without it going all spazzy etc.
It may still cut in and try to save you though if you get it seriously wrong.. ??
ABS can never be shut down, surely - why would you?

Well, after asking this question a number of times, I am now convinced that nobody knows the definitive answer to this question! :chicken:

I'm sure that Mr Grumpy T_T will know the detail.
[just teasing ]

LOL, you were right first time (before the strike-through)! :ashamed:
And yeah, I will try to post the answer in greater detail shortly - but the ESP system needs a bit of a detailed explanation of ALL its functions - to answer the "what doesn't get turned off when press the button" !!

That would a highly useful thread T_T!

Yeah, it will have to wait for next week though - SWMBO now nagging again! :rolleye:

all i know is that the car drives like a much better car with it off. however in these conditions its left on mostly, apart from starts sometimes :driver:

:happy2:
I hope this will be retrofittable with earlier Mk.60-ESP.

Only six years after Audi then . . . .
I hope this will be retrofittable with earlier Mk.60-ESP.
I doubt it. Anyway, it is only software code.
