Title: Is it Just Me?
Post by: Mr Punch on July 30, 2010, 04:09:52 pm

Hi Guy's

Is it just me or what?

I constantly seem to be filling the car up lately???

From halfway on the fuel needle I am lucky to get about 125 Miles.

It's a 4 Mile drive to work through traffic and I don't thrash it either rarely use the boost.

Obviously the same coming home.

And in between dropping the kids here and there no real great distances.

Set the Computer and I'm getting 20.8mpg on no1

And my overall since having the car about 1200miles driven......on no2  I'm getting 24.7mpg

Is this normal / average.

Thanks

if its all around town, that sounds a bout right to me, but then again i aint got a golf but hot hatches seem to all do about that in traffic.

Make sure your using super unleaded, but in 4 miles the engine can't get fully warmed up and will be running rich to try and warm up.

I can't recall the fuel tank size but for me, I managed to fill it with 60 litres to the brim. Given half-way is under probably 25-30 litres
30 litres approx 6.5 gallons
125 miles divided by 6.5 is 19mpg.

It depends on entirely on driving style. At the mo, a 10 mile journey in traffic takes 40 mins and get around 22mpg. Same journey at night takes 20 mins and get around 27-30 mpg. Stop-start traffic isn't kind to the GTI.

Just depends as others have said, on driving style, distances.

My weekly work journey is about 15 miles each way, and different mpg each time, sometimes high 20's others early 30's.

Other evening I went on a 30 minute drive and was seeing 41mpg (had to look twice, and again!).

Preferable to run Super as Nasir says, I use Tesco 99 tends to give the best results personally.

Im sure the fuel tank is 55 litres... Just cost me £62 to put 52 litres in and I was almost on the 0 line (5 miles left according to trip meter) and managed 365 miles to the previous tank.

Thanks Guys,

Feel a bit better now  :happy2:

Not had the car long still absolutley love it.......

I have only used Tesco99 since I bought it .

On the petrol cap cover it states 98 Ron...Is this a minimum?

Or can it be ran on normal unleaded 95 Ron?

There is a method in my madness...My company Car runs on standard unleaded ......

It's a Zafira I bought it for family reasons also kids football on weekends etc..

If I'm not visiting any sites and I'm local in the office I take the Golf and let the missus use the Zafira Happy Days.

If I need to go 2-300 mile I use the Zafira it has a fuel card only for unleaded though not super.

So I cant take the GTI unless I pay for the fuel what's the point in that.

So could I put standard in or will it harm the car

The tank is 55 litres, so must have ran it on vapours and then filled it up to the neck to get 60 litres in  Or the filling station is screwing you and giving out undermeasured litres

My average is now at 18.1mpg and falling - this NOS eats fuel :signLOL:

Ditto here - i also, sometimes, get paranoid thinking are the petrol stations selling V Power are just pumping normal leaded... :stupid:  -

The GTI is not the right car if you worry about mpg, i do about 3 miles to work and back each day and never get more than 20!!

Pretty much. A bit frustrating when the two most nearby Shell garages are out of V-power!
