Title: ED30 feeling a bit flat
Post by: DooDah on July 30, 2010, 08:19:28 pm
Took wifes edition 30 for a spin today and it feels a little flat and not picking up aswell as it usually does...it is a standard car with only a cat back Miltek fitted. Before i start digging deeper any ideas what to look at first. Thanks

What fuel is she putting in it?? 95 unleaded or 99 octane?

Running it on 95 will make it run abit flat.

B3n....it is a 2007 model and looking at the service history and receipts nothing mentioned about the DV being changed.

as said, run it empty on 95 then tank it up with tesco 99 or V-power, and that should wake it up :happy2:

I've always thought my ed was a little slow off the mark, seems to take a while to get it going, especially in the lower rev range, but once the turbo kicks in, it really goes.  :driver:

Feels kind of lumpy in a way, I thought this was normal though, I'm guessing a remap should sort this out and make it feel smoother.

Have spoke to said wife and she is adamant that she puts BP Ultimate in the ED30....so it looks like it might not be a fuel problem.....B3n mentioned earlier about the DV....any suggestions please.

there is every chance that on a 2007 car the DV is getting tired, there is an updated version which is really easy to change on the ED30, it would be the first thing I'd do, they are about 45 quid from the stealer :happy2:

Am i correct in saying the DV is located in a different position on the ED30 KO4 than the GTI KO3.

So can it be changed from the top without having to jack the car up or using a ramp? :happy2:

I think you are correct.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's easier to access on the ed30 than gti.

I won't rush out and buy a new DV just yet.

It's very easy to remove and check (have a search, it's covered a number of times on here), and if your cars not remapped it's not that likely it's at fault as you will probably have the later version G diaphragm version anyway.

The D version is a worthwhile upgrade if you need a new DV though  :happy2:

Yes these would be applicable, but also worth considering the weather, heat soak will also play a part so the car will feel less spritely.

The best thing to do if your in any doubt if get someone to log the car with VCDS to rule out boost leaks etc.

She bought the car last september and she has kerbed all 4 wheels at least twice...if she does it again its gonna be the divorce courts....she can have the kids and will have the ED30....that sounds like a good settlement!!!...back to the DV a good mate of mine will hook the car up next week and check for any boost leaks or any other problems and check the DV.
