I have been deliberating for weeks now on what car to get next as our family car, the car will mostly be used by the missus when she goes back to work next year and she covers quite a few miles back and 2 to Wales each day. The car will also be family car for days out and holidays so needs to be roomy.
I was 80% sure we would get a golf estate or a Passat, but i came across the hyundai ix 35 last week and now fancy getting one of these, in the diesel version. Not very exciting i know, but the GTI is for that.

5 year Warranty and i cant find a poor review on it.
So my question is: Has anybody came across any bad stories about these. And have you guys got any more ideas on what could be a better choice as our new family car.

Looks are subjective, the old cashcow got poor ratings in a lot of reviews, as i did consider it at first.
-
i do worry that i like the cashcows looks now :sad1:

My brother is the sales manager at our local Hyundai and he's had a couple of them as his wheels, he seems to really rate them and has another one lined up to go on for 01 September.
-
Only problem is low residuals with them, if you're planning on keeping it 7 years to take full advantage of the excellent warranty then it probably makes sense.
If its going to get changed in 3 years (even if she says it wont - you'll have changed the GTI by then and she'll be looking at your new motor enviously) then I persoanlly think you'll lose a lot of money.
Have you considered a really big spec Focus C Max - roomy and if you get a 6 month oldone you'll save a fortune and let somebody else take the hit
-
^^^^
Surely he could just do the same with an IX35 though and save more money and get the benefit of an extra 18months warranty over the Ford!

It would be a new one, it is a brand new model and there is only about 10 for sale on autotrader, i think i can get it cheaper new, than the second prices. The Kuga is about 4grand more for the same spec and its a lot more to run. The touran is dated now and by all accounts not very reliable.
We have a test drive booked for tomorrow. :driver:

What do you mean.
-
I think after the first three years it will cover less and less as items start to be classed as 'wear and tear' and they'll quibble a bit more. Just my opinion of course.
-
well I was only suggesting !
touran with sport pack is lovely imho , old ? not really, mr fussy.
also try citroen c crosser , my sister has one which they love, but I have driven it and it was

Don't forget the ford smax. Cracking mpv.
-
renault products are also stupid cheap when 6 months old, they're not too interesting but have solid Ncap ratings.

There's big discounts to be had off Kugas (lad at work is buying one) and by all accounts, they're a very good car. Rent one, forget about depreciation and give it back in 2/3 years.
If I was buying though.... Don't know why I like them, but I do!!

TC I have a close friend who has just had his delivered.
He absolutely loves it... He has gone from a Reiger Scirocco to a Volvo S40 T5 and now to this as his family car.
He simply cannot fault it.

Going to look into renting one as you suggest. I have never done it before, I always thought you lost loads on these type of deals, dont you have to put a large deposit down as well as the monthly payments. Also does anyone know a website that predicts future residuals on new models out now. So i can compare the 2 methods of ownership. :happy2:
-
It doesn't work with everything, just certain manufacturers/models they're trying to ensure there's a decent supply of 2nd hand in a few years time.
Basically you want the smallest deposit possible, none is best... this is the pinch as if you want out of the car, then you don't want a load of dead money sitting in it for you to lose. Then a guaranteed future value, say 60-65% at 2 years. Your monthly payments will be the balance of the new cost and the GFV @x% interest.
There's websites you can use that basically offer your custom to a load of dealers and they bid for your business.

01995 641111 ask for Darren tell them I gave you his name.
Sometimes on Personal Contract Hire its better on 2 years than 3, they recently had a 15k Astra on contract hire at 160 per month with 480 quid deposit. Its all to do with the RV but also the amount of support the manufacturer is giving. They tend to support fleet more than retail.
If theres bonuses about on kugas ask for a 3+23 quote on personal contract hire - I reckon 200 a month would be doable
-
Thanks for the help guys, best start my research. :happy2:
-
For basic motoring where the car is just a tool, it makes sense - I've never done it before, but have bought my new toy this way as I don't see the point of using my own money when I can rent it so cheap, more towards the Pork :happy2:
-
Indeed ^^^^^^
On contract hire treat it like a disposable razor and when they come to collect it tell them to bring a brush and shovel :fighting2:

The Yeti is actually quite a nice car. Based on the Golf/A5 chassis and should keep some of its money when you come to change it. :happy2:
