Has anyone installed new 1300 firmware ? also any known battery drain issues with this release.
Thanks in advance :happy2:
-
There's not alot of info about yet, I'm not even sure what it changes over say 2680, I'm waiting for 2800 bit again this doesn't even seem available
-
I think there are a few of us that haven't upgraded our older Can Gateways that would like to know this.
Would be great to have most if not all the additional features of the later firmwares, without having to spend more money on upgrading the gateway.
If anyone has attempted this please post and let us know.

If you look on VWNavi a guy called Josi has modified both 272X and 276X firmware to solve the battery drain issue. He has taken the VUCI from 1200 and put it in both firmwares which solves the battery drain issue.
I have the 272X version working on both my MFD3 A versions and suffer no battery drain.
Click me (http://vwnavi.com/showthread.php/13672-Unofficial-272x-software-and-SWL-recovery-CD)
You need to register (which is free) to see it. I'm not linking the firmware direct so you can see what issues there are (mp3 not resuming etc)
Not tried 276X as happy with 272X
Carl :happy2:
-
Cheers think ill give that a go,
how can you find out what Can Gateway you have ?
-
VCDS is the only way really :happy2:
Or you could take it out and read the part no. off it but i don't recommend that
-
Had a reply back from Josi over at VWNAvi who posted the hacked firmwares for Rev A units. According to him, the standard (non hacked) VW 1300 firmware is perfectly suitable for my 2005 car (with Can Gateway E) and my RNS510 Rev B. Again, according to Josi, NO battery drain issues at all, no Resenberg Syndrome, and all the main features of the later 27xx firmwares with the exception of Voice control.
Darren, Steve, Carl, do you know of this being correct (before I stuff my unit)
Cheers
Andrew
-
From what i have heard and read what he has told you is correct.
I haven't heard of anyone with any problems.
I'm running his 272X firmware and it works fine. Josi knows his stuff :happy2:
-
Cheers Carl. Just need to download it now :happy2:
Oops... sorry Carl, forgot to ask, am I better burning the ISO when I have it to a CD or a DVD blank ?
-
Either is fine.
Just burn it as slow as possible and verify it afterwards :happy2:

Just to confirm are you going for the 1300 fimware?

Yes Maicaerin, downloaded and installed at lunchtime. Everything seemed to go well, with no errors. The Map data and music on the HDD was unaffected as were all the previous settings, radio stations and Nav addresses.
The unit is now reporting itself as a 1T0 035 680C with firmware 1300 HW-Version H02. I've only had a quick play but I do seem to have a more responsive unit and certainly have the road speed indication on the Map screen, option to turn the screen off and various other improvements. Didn't see an option to change the voice from female to male (like a friends later unit) ? But as I said I only played with it for a couple of minutes.
Did notice that immediately after starting and switching to the map screen, it was already showing my current position - not a far flung field in Germany
Will have to wait to see if there are any problems (like battery drain) but so far fingers crossed. Pictures below of the install process

Good to see its worked Norbecka, the only worry I have is the mp3 resume function as that could really get on my nerves! Also do people know if the 729E bluetooth kit will work with the 1300 FW?
-
I'll try that out tonight Rich and report back. Doesn't this only affect VRB mp3 files (of which I actually don't have many) ?

I didnt appreciate that it was specific types of files as that acronym meant nothing to me, that makes me feel alot happier as I dont think I have any variable bit rate files. Just the question on the bluetooth kit now then! Cheers Norbreck :drinking:
-
Yeah Cheers Norbreck thanks for being our guinea pig LOL
did you just put the disc in and it ran automatically?

Yep, took about 40 minutes and worked flawlessly.
Rich, when I started the car again tonight, the MDI (Ipod) carried on exactly where I had left off (about 2/3's of the way through the track I was listening to at lunchtime). To be fair I haven't tried it with the HDD files or the SD card but I will over the next couple of days.
Also noticed that before the upgrade, the RNS screen used to call the MDI button "Media IN", whereas now it's called just "MDI". Works perfectly though.
Definatley no Resenberg syndrome either (with my equipment at least)
Here's hoping that the battery issues are indeed sorted, guess I'll find out over the weekend :surprised:

So its looking good then, I have downloaded the firmware and have the cd's ready for thursday when I will have a go.
Cheers Andrew :congrats:

Right then a quick update on the 1300 firmware after having a play around with it last night.
Changed
Speed displays operational on the Nav screen (i.e it tells you the max speed for the road you are travelling on).
Ability to set blocked roads on the Navi
Quicker response time to touchscreen presses.
If clock is set to display (in setup menu), then with the ignition on and the RNS switched off, it will display the time.
Ability (on my unit anyway) to use 16GB SDHC cards (didn't have anything bigger)
"MEDIA IN" button on RNS now changed to "MDI"
Showing the HDD capacity now shows a rather nice Pie Chart rather than the single coloured line from before.
Not changed
Still only 4 digit postcode I'm afraid
No issues that I can see with MP3 files not starting where left off. tried it with MDI, HDD and SD card and they all work fine.
No Resenberg Syndrome. Picked up my position immediately.
Start-up time not changed (i.e. a tad slow) but as mentioned, when booted, touch screen operation does seem faster (although this could be a placebo effect ?).
So far (at least - no issues with battery drain, although to be fair the car was only left overnight. However upon starting this morning, I did get the "Welcome to VW Navigation" boot screen, which seems to indicate to me that the unit had fully shut down. Took about 15-20 Seconds to fully boot up (i. e until the map screen could be displayed and the "system starting" colourful screen disappeared.
Also, as mentioned, both the music files on the Navi unit and the Maps, plus all settings (Radio presets, bass, treble settings, and colour scheme) were unaffected by the firmware upgrade.
If I find anything more, I'll post up.
Cheers
Andrew

Postcode's is NOT a firmware issue. It's a mapping issue.
VAG Have to license the 7 Digit functionality and then incorporate that into the mapping. There has been talk for a while now about 7 Digit postcode entry but unless it appears with V7 maps then we will just have to wait until VAG license it :happy2:
Good to see though that 1300 is pretty much the same as the 272X & 276X firmwares :happy2:
-
Ahh, thanks for clearing that up Carl.
Thought to myself, couldn't have the Rev "C" boys having it and not me
-
Cheers Andrew, In my head then I read right time for a sick rep..... A la top gear :signLOL:
All sounds very positive, I will go through the procedure myself on Thursday and post up how it gets on with the Skoda Bluetooth and my phone!
-
Yeah, that would be useful Rich :happy2:
-
Just been reading your post on the RNS bluetooth thread, will let you know how compatible the new firmware is with the Skoda unit before you splash out on a new setup, I also have the voice control loom in place so I will check if that will work with the updated firmware, as that could be a big bonus especially if it lets me make and answer calls. Then you dont need a button

Top banana :happy2:

that's very strange. I've left mine for 5 days whilst I was away on business, and it started first time on my return. No labouring, just fired instantly and started straight away .
-
it came out of the blue for me too id left the car for longer with no problems, last used the car about 4pm yesterday went to get in the car at 12pm today and it was completely dead. i hadn't left lights on or anything obvious.

Just download 2720 or 2760 with the Battery fix :happy2:
is this the josi version ?
and is it ok to put on a ver B

Yes and yes :happy2:

Just thought I would quickly post an update for the 1300 firmware.
As I had the misfortune to recently break a bone in my foot, I was off the road for a couple of weeks. A good time to test the battery drain capabilities of the RNS. Well I pleased to report that after not being started for just over 2 weeks, the car sprang to life on the first turn of the key.
So I guess (that at least for me), 1300 does not give me any battery drain problems.
-
Sorry to drag this back up, but I have only just got round to doing the 1300 upgrade as I have problems with burning media that the RNS would accept. And I thought I would finish off the 1300 topic with some info on the Skoda UHV BT module.
I was previously on 1100 and had reasonable operation of everything on the RNS but a wish to use V7 maps with full postcode has forced me to update, I eventually want to change the canbus but not yet.
First impressions of 1300 is a definite improvement in unit response noticeably faster in every operation including startup, unit also now displays speed limit for current road. Both are very worthwhile and I havent tried SDHC cards yet but that will be a major improvement to be able to quickly manage the music and extend capacity if needed.
Bluetooth - I have the Skoda 729B unit and previously had full operation with my HTC HD2 giving me 6 favorites on the phone screen, access to my phone book but only with access to my dialled number list, and no ability to voice call.
After update to 1300 I now have no favorites on the phone screen this area is blank, I have no access to the phone book yet I know have full access to the dialled missed and received call numbers including names and type of contact (home mobile office) and it will now give me access to voice dialling but the voice dialling still doesnt recognise my address book. The interesting thing is once you dial a number the name from the phone becomes associated with the number I have manually inputted!!!
All in all the update has been positive, I now just need to give it some time to check battery drain and SDHC. I will have to do some research into the bluetooth module but I believe its a known issue with the newer firmware versions.
-
I only just installed this today as my battery was being drained ( I believe anyway) by 2760 firmware as it was getting hard to start, the unit seems the same as before but one thing I noticed was when it goes in reverse a black screen comes up as if it would show a reverse camera feed for example is there anyway of stopping this happening? as I dont have a reverse camera!
-
The RNS will need Recoding with VCDS to tell it no camera is connected. Whoever had it before must have had RVC as the units retain the coding when removed normally.

Hi! Upping this one. Great thread with great answers! Just downloading the 1300 fw for my rev. C RNS-510. I just came up with a problem that my screen is becoming black just after start. When you reboot it it's ok for 30sec and black again. After driving around for like 15-20mins and reboot the screen works fine without going black no more.
Trying to fix this issue with the 1300 fw, not sure which one I have installed atm (think 1020 or something?).
Again, thanks for the great thread!
EDIT: Umh, 2100km to work    "German bug" appeared
