Title: MDI adapter
Post by: billy2shots on August 01, 2010, 03:44:30 pm
I have an MDI cable in my glove box and an Aux port in the front of my centre arm rest (on the outide, also have 6 cd changer in arm rest). After searching for a while am i right in thinking i need a mdi adapter cable to connect my ipod to my rns 510.

If so is it VW or Ebay or does shops like maplins sell them. Had a quick look but couldnt find any high street shops. Am i looking at about £19 ebay-£23 VW?

Is the mdi route the best way to go or should i use the Aux port?

All help appreciated :stupid:

MDI is by FAR the best route. The MDI in combination with the RNS510 is a superb solution for the Ipod. Full control over the ipod from the touch screen and track details etc displayed, and the ipod is charged for you as well.

Yes you will need the MDI to Ipod cable (there's also an MDI to USB cable that enables the use of USB memory sticks). I got mine (genuine VW) from the bay for £13.00 + £2 p&p about  6 weeks ago.

The USB one should cover most eventualities as you could still plug an Ipod lead into it.

USB + Ipod lead won't work :( you need the real mdi to ipod lead

Ahh, ok.  I thought it would have seen the iPod as if it were plugged into a PC.
