Hi guys, just jail broken my ios 4 iPhone 3GS. Just thought I'd let younknow on here it's possible now! I didnit last night when the servers were still quiet, I guess they might be rammed now.
Anyways, I've got tethering working which was the most important thing for me. I've got my iPad connected to a wireless network created by my 3GS using the iPhones 3G connection. Schweeet
Anyone wanting to do it just nave to jailbreakme.com and you can do it all on the phone. Works iPhone 4 too I think and iPad.
-
sorry to sound daft but what does jail broken mean??
-
Basically you can do anything you like to the phone and run software that apple doesn't want you too.
You can also get cracked apps which you don't pay for.
-
Is there any risk with this now Jay? I'm now finally part of the Iphone crew and know about the Jailbreak stuff, just don't want to do it in case it goes tits up.. :scared:
-
Just JB'd my iPhone 4. :) :jumpmove:
Anyone know what the best Mifi application is currently on Cydia?
Edit: Just downloaded MyWi 4.
-
Cant seem to get MyWi working at all. For starters, looks like its a paid app with a 10 day trial and also requires Rock to be installed. So im removing that. Any other options for creating a Wifi hotspot for iPads?
-
Also, I have just unlocked the Iphone for all networks and it says it will send a text within 14 days.. 14 BLOODY DAYS!!! :scared: Is it likely to take as long as that or will it be a lot quicker generally?
-
JB'ing unlocks the phone for you.
-
Ben,
Bro-in-law got his unlocked message through in a couple of days.

What's the easiest way to check without removing sim cards?

I had my Iphone unlocked by O2 in 48 hrs after i requested it. I recieved a txt saying the phone was unlocked then when i plugged my phone into Itunes a message came up on the screen confirming it had been unlocked :happy2:
Jay has your phone slowed down in anyway? Ive read that jailbreaking slows the phone down and mine is already slow enough now ive upgraded to IOS 4
-
nope, not experienced any draw backs yet.
Dont have me down as one of these that is mad on jailbreaking. I couldnt never be arsed to find out how to before, this is the first time ive done it.
Its really easy!

I'm in the same situation iOS4 on 3GS. Wanted to JB originally but now not so sure. What are the drawbacks?
-
Doesnt iTunes tell you when its been unlocked?
-
^^^^ Yup

Forgive me for sounding simple but I've never done Anything like this before, but here goes. I've got an iPhone 3GS running the newest software (4.1 I think) and I'm tempted to buy an iPad but I don't want to pay £15 a month for it to have 3G. So if I jailbreak my phone does that mean I can connect my phone to the iPad and use the iPhones 3G? If yes than great but surely there must be a catch? Does it effect the phone, apps, music contract with o2? Thanks chaps.
-
I still cant get MyWi 4.0 to work. Anyone else had any problems?
Edit: Figured out what the problem was. Needed to transfer the licenses from my old iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4 within Rock. :)

It puts a heavy load on the phone battery as you will be using 3G and WiFi at the same time and obviously you will need to buy the MiWi
-
What's miwi and how much is it? Thanks.
-
MyWi 4.0 costs $19.99 and allows you to share the phones 3G network as a wifi hotspot.
-
Does the phone need to be jailbroken to run mywi?
-
Yes MiWi is only available in Cydia shop which you can only get to if you jailbreak
Its currently very easy to jailbreak both iPhones and Ipads, just by going to a website
Apple will have to shut the door on their next firmware version as its a pretty big security risk that has been found, basically any website that directs you to a pdf file could insert malicious code onto your i device :scared:

Bit off topic, but does anyone know how to delete all contacts off an Iphone without wiping everything else off (ie restoring factort settings)? I need to somehow get all my names (500+) off my Blackberry and on to my Iphone and really hope I don't have to delete the existing contacts off the Iphone and add all the new ones manually, as that would take years.. :scared:

To remove all your contacts on your iPhone, under iTunes, untick the Sync Contacts With... option and further down the screen under Advanced enable the replace information on this iPhone for contacts
To get your Blackberry contacts onto your iPhone can you sync your Blackberry with Outlook, and then sync Outlook with your iPhone, assuming you are using a real PC

Jay,
One of the biggest "issues" for me with my 3GS (with OS 4.01) is the fact that you can't bluetooth contacts. Being poor, I don't have the VW premium bluetooth unit in the car (with your lovely RNS ), but I do instead have a Parrot CK3000 Evo, with a special harness to allow it to work with the steering wheel buttons.
TBH it will do me, but with the Iphone not being able to send a contact to the Parrot (like nearly every other phone in the known universe can), I am forced into using the Ipone's own voice dialling (which is a bit hit and miss to say the least).
If you jailbrake an Iphone, are there apps that allow you to add this functionality (or is it all hardware based) ?

The 3rd party bluetooth apps for jailbroken iPhones have not been updated for IOS 4 yet
