Title: Fitting Ariel Cable to Aftermarket Headunit
Post by: Gordy on August 05, 2010, 10:56:45 am
Hi

I have just bought a Jetta which has an aftermarket headunit fitted however the radio did not work so I bought the correct cable for this - just like the one in this link:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-Jetta-Amplified-Fakra-Aerial-Adaptor-PC5-137-/260485115419?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3ca61f6e1b

However ofcourse the large connection goes straight in to the back on the headunit but what do the other 2 leads connect to - one should clearly be the ariel which is built in to the car as the reception is quite poor but does anyone know which cable it connects to?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The other cable needs to go to a 12v switch live feed as the adapter is amplified  :happy2:

I think I am being stupid but I was unable to identify the 12v live feed!

There are 3 "mute" cables which are free but dont think it will be one of those.

Also do both the extra cables on the Antenna Adaptor require to be connected - at the moment I only have the main cable connected to the back of the headunit but this is why the reception is so poor.

Thanks!

You can find a switched live either at the cigarette lighter, on the back of the climate controls or in the fuse box

Thanks so the black cable with the blue plastic clip goes to that?

Wish it just came with the standard headunit

Black cable with the blue connector goes to the aerial lead thats in the car

Black lead with silver connector goes to the head unit

Blue wire needs to go to a switches ignition live feed which be found at the cigarette lighter, on the back of the climate controls or in the fuse box
