Yep, a Golf R but 5-door DSG.. Silver (without the roof and bonnet graphics) with red OZ Alleggerita wheels and a few performance mods. Definitely with my VW05 RED number plate transferred.
But....
....I'm not actually planning to change at the moment. However, a Golf R would be a very strong contender indeed. I really love this silver one in the pic.
I just thought I would share my thoughts and post a nice pic of an R. :happy2:

Nice choice Robin...looks very Porsche GT3 ish in that colour scheme... :happy2:
-
:happy2: Good choice!
-
I have no problems regarding the choice of car Robin but would prefer it without the red wheels and graphics.
Think stealth!
-
are those golf R's really expensive though Robin??
:signLOL:
-
i've seen a steel 3 door in the flesh and

....Since when have I been into stealthiness? - Definitely not my nature.

....You seem to know me quite well. But funds aren't free at the moment and I'm not ready to let go of my throbbin' red one yet.
-

....
Who cares? - I certainly don't. The 'bang' for me is simply how much I love the car I choose to drive.

...and by posting that picture you attracted comments. I gave you mine. Not my cup of tea.
Looks like you parked in the wrong neighbourhood and the local graffiti artist paused on his way past. :P

....No problem, Ian - I don't like the graphics either (as I posted originally). I do love the red wheels though and it would make sense with my number plate.
-
i think it looks awesome pure and simple i dont do bland looking i like my cars to say something :signLOL: and i think the graphics look good too :P
-
^^^^
I like the red chequered side strip though... But without the lettering on it.
I also like the red 'interior' to the VW badge.

Sorry Robin I missed that. :ashamed: I'll let you have your red wheels but still not my cup of tea. :booty:

OUCH!

What size do the Alleggeritas go up to Robin? I'm guessing 18s would look pretty lost on an R.
its an S3 in a Golf dress
I'd prefer an S3 in a Golf dress than an S3 in an S3 dress

Let's face it, the Golf R and the S3 are as visually bland as one another. Cost and performance aside, neither is ever going to set anyones heart alight.

true
-
wheels fully red not like in the pic you've provided

....Exactly! Thanks :happy2:
The wheels on the R in the pic are OZ but not Alleggerita's.

....Good point. I'm not sure OZ do Alleggerita's in 19's but they make everything to order anyway, so it may be possible as long as they'd be strong enough.

Ive seen a white 5 door dsg Golf R, 100 miles on the clock, with decent spec up for sale at the moment for a more reasonable £32k.
All right, except its retail price. :sad1:

Meh, quality of the Mk5 is way above the Mk6.
Mk5 doors - 50 man-hours to build.
Mk6 doors - 10 man-hours to build.
Mk6 is meant to "feel" more expensive - there's that industry thing they call "percieved quality" (as opposed to, well, actual quality). In reality it's cheaper for VW to build. Early Mk5 GTI/R32 was the high-water mark for the Golf IMO.
But then I'd say that.
Rather than splash out £30k on a new car why not drop half that into your current Golf? If you're after individuality then that would be over and beyond throwing some graphics and paint at Mk6 R.

....I've never added it up but I'm sure I've already spent more than an extra £15k on my Mk5 GTI and have achieved individuality as well as a joyous ride.
-
I know, I meant 15k more
