Well that result should keep a few people happy
I'd save the £5k though and chuck it on modding the Leon

I agree i liked mine. Even more than the golf GTI mk5 or mk6 :scared:
-
we just sold the other halfs mk2 Leon and I'll miss it :sad1:
-
Just watched it on tinterweb :happy2:
So you reckon the T25 will take off...?
It had what looked like Red's monkey DRL's on the front!
-
Got to say the Leon is good value for money
Golf looks great tho.
-
I would still have the golf. :happy2:
-
It had what looked like Red's monkey DRL's on the front!
....I'd like to see a pic of that.
One of the top of the range Alfa's has the same monkeys as mine too. Dedicated DRL's will become law on all new cars in the not so distant future and Hella supply a lot of OEM as well as develop designs for car manufacturers.
Much better that the Golf R has 'proper' DRL's too, rather than just using normal light units like the Mk6 Golf does - Yellow, rather ineffective and no style.
-
id be interested to see the same race again, however with the leon to have a proper mechanical diff. ive driven a new vRS with the XDS and it felt no different to my car
-
The Rocco R was only 7 or 8 seconds slower a lap around the Ring too, that 4WD isn't buying you much advantage at all...
I know people bang on about wanting 4WD, but unless you're getting proper 4WD a-la EVO/Scooby then you're just lugging a load of weight around so you have an advantage in the wet. Who drives fast in the rain?
Proper diff and it'd kill it.
-
^^^^
I think there's no doubt that the XDS helps but it certainly doesn't feel either as direct or as strong as a mechanical diff such as the Quaife. I can see that a system like XDS will better suit a manufacturer as it will doubtless be far cheaper to include on a mass scale. This why we have to mod cars though - OEM is mostly a compromise to suit a mass market across many territories and many people who don't much love driving.
-
Golf R 2WD with a diff - Hmm, maybe that will be the Edition 35 :happy2:
-
You're dead on right, Robin, mass market appeal.
A Renaultsport Megane or a Focus RS has a very niche market, the likes of GTIs and Cupras are bought by everyone from petrolheads to vicars to school-run mums and everyone in between... so they can't afford to be seen to sell a car with compromised driveability (in non-enthusiast eyes), hence them making them understeery too.
All about safety, refinement, middle ground and winning yet another "Best allrounder hot hatch" award.

As the T-shirt says:

to be fair the golf has always been like that, thats what a hot hatch is really, everyday car, think the others just have to do it bit more hardcore to tempt a few, as renaultsport, ford, honda etc could not make an allrounder as good as the golf.

so when you getting a golf? :P
-
i got a golf for kids  dont want my car to be a perfect all rounder, i like fun :P
-
Fun i guess is glueing it back together when it falls apart later.
The golf is fun aswell, just glued slightly better
But in watching that R try and negoiate a corner with its 4WD system, it was still understeering quite badly at times. Adds to why its not a good as its price dictates. :stupid:
-
Fwd and a diff works great :driver:

thats a new one :signLOL: as i have said its the best everyday car, but for fun, no its not the best (stock), as for the r, its a safe fast family car, and im sure a good one, as for the price, vw know people do not want to pay for the ever increasing car taxation, so lets nick a few potentiel S4,330 buyers.
-
Im such a geek i noticed some of the interior close ups of the golf were not even of a golf R :rolleye:

....You've always had a fine eye for detail, Geoff.... You Geek! you!!
Good to see you here occasionally :drinking:
-
The R looked sloppy, even though the Seat is 5 grand cheaper its still really expensive and would hold out for the Anniversary of the Golf.
Cant see that T25 taking off, imagine Alan Sugar getting out of one or anyone of this forum for that matter...
-

Im often about reading :happy2:
The 5th gear video at 1min10 just after he changes gear. The dash changes and the steeringwheel has no buttons. Then later on the R has red instrument needles.
-
and manual air con on the close up and gear changing shots!
good spot my man.

I drive fast in the rain....because i can
Also i obliterated an RS focus in my car the other day, i can 100% guarantee he was trying as he started ahead and the noise was very nice, watching him have 0 grip and the axle hop was not nice
An RS is quicker normally than my car as i found out :ashamed:
