Hi folks
I'm after some advice and pick your brains!!!
I'm considering buying the above and have seen one for sale £17999 from a VW dealer. It's an 2008 08 plate with 16 thousand odd miles, nearly 17 i think. Registered in April 08. 3 door.
From what i can see from the pics it has Xenons and centre arm rest as options. I havn't seen the car yet but did phone and ask the dealer what options it had. Well i may aswel of not bothered because they have not got a clue. The sales manager said er er well its got 18inch bbs wheels..... what a prat!!!!
I popped into my local VW dealership and they printed me off the vehicle data (not history or customer details) but do i understand it...do i hell..
The advice i'm looking for is...is the vehicle with the spec ive listed so far worth the money if obviously it was in good condition?
Any advice welcome :happy2:

It seems to be the going rate im afraid, i'm also after a candy white ed 30, I saw that one your looking at but I've got my eyes on another one!!
-
The white ones are getting good money, they probably gave the last owner 15-15.5k for it so worth trying to haggle some extra bits plus at least 1k off, don't hang around to long though as my CW ed30 sold on the same day it went on the forecourt apparently :surprised:
-
Is it the one at Hyde VW?
-
Just seems alot considering the specs not great. :sad1:
Jesus sold the same day :surprised:. Better get my skates on. Ive put a holding deposit on it and gonna look at it the weekend.
@ 182_BLUE, What extra bits do you think i should haggle over?
And yes i think they think im willing to pay the asking price but its not gonna happen  only offering me £3750 for my gt tdi mkv, mind you it has got 97k on the clock, thought it would be worth a little bit more though..
-
Is it the one at Hyde VW?
Yes pal
-
I saw it advertised the other day, I could swing by and have a look if you like or are you local?, I used to have my ED30 serviced there, was very happy with their service :happy2:
-
Let us know how nice/crap it is when you view it :D

Gaz I would be very grateful if you could mate, i live in telford so its about 1h 40 to there. The plot thickens though pal cos i went to look at it sunday just gone but it wasnt there..... i wasnt to happy although i suppose i should of phoned first. Apparently it belongs to the Sales managers wife so not sure if it will be there in the week or not!!
I think the sales women thought i was selling my golf with the charlestons i bought off ya mate....no chance of that i love them wheels
@ DAV, I'll let ya know mate :happy2:
-
I'll try to call in over the weekend :happy2:
-
I'll try to call in over the weekend :happy2:
Excellent thanks pal
-
Does anyone think its worth trying to get money off using the low spec excuse or would i be wasting my time trying?
Tried to ask them if it had Highline but they just didnt know :stupid: its one of two things i want (its gotta have xenons)
Its got radio with cd/mp3 listed on this spec sheet i have, also says multifunction display/ on board computer is that highline?
-
Don't go by what the spec list on the VW site says. It's not accurate some times. Is it DSG? If it's got xenons then it's probably well specced.
-
there's two come into the VW network recently. both pretty young and similar mileage. one has xenons and the other is DSG. both CW and both 18k. i think it's the going rate from MD'ers.
i'm starting to think about getting a scirocco instead.
-
Anything, free mats, free servicing, extended warranties, gap cover , tank of fuel you ge tthe idea, but for the candy's its a sellers market so you might have to pay what they want, all worth a go, you can always walk away

Sound cheers pal. Yes think I've gotta decide what Im willing to pay and stick with it. But as you say it's def a sellers Market with this colour. Looking at other colours the spec doesn't seem to make a huge difference to price, just the colour. And yes I could always walk away if I'm not happy with the deal.

Was in the area so popped in to have a quick look at it for you mate, unfortunately it wasn't on site :( spoke to the sales guys and they explained it is the brand managers girlfriends car so not always on site, I just missed it too apparently, typical!
They did say however that someone from London ? Had a deposit on it pending a viewing over the weekend so assume thats yourself?
Will try again later when I'm passing :)
-
Ha Ha, you just saved me a journey, I was gonna call in myself

Thanks for that pal, I wonder if this car exists because no one ever seen it lol. Yes I put a holding deposit on it till Sunday when I look at it, although I'm from Telford not London silly buggers. I'm sure they told me it was the sales managers missus never mind. Not to impressed with it being used as far as I'm concerned Vw are selling it and it should Be round the back out of the way... Until I get my mits on it that is :P :signLOL:
Thanks for your help though guys :happy2:
-
seems like a fair price, CW appears to be an expensive one. i bought mine back in may for the same price with 10k on the clock with a few mods too and a fairly good spec. best of luck pal :happy2:
-
I paid £18k for Red 3DR ,DSG ,XENONS,NAV,HIGHLINE AND 8900 MILES one owner full vag history ,

Bloody Candy White, you have a fair few extras on there pal. Thats the thing, you have all that for 18k yet the car im looking at has only xenons and centre arm rest!!
Never mind its the price ya pay for CW :signLOL:
-
thing i don't get is if CW is so desired - which it undoubtedly is, it's what i'm after too - why didn't more people spec it when they bought theirs firsthand?
-

a lot of people did, but they seem to be holding onto them, and when they do sell they dont hang around, white for some was quite a brave choice 2-3 years ago too as there wasnt so many cars in white so they specd black etc etc

Yeah I was one of those who took the plunge....a muppet saleman told me oh you don't want to be buying a White un, you'll never sell it on... :driver:
Good luck with the search Gav :happy2:

i can see the bravery/daring point. for me, the gti is quite conservatively styled. it looks good and is also classy. other hot hatches often tend to look tacky/cheap/juvenile and often a bit chavvy. the cw option seems to take things that bit further and really distinguish the car from the greys/blacks without taking it into chavdom.
dealer said to me the other day that "it's the colour everyone wants" and i bemoaned that more didn't get it.
i'm also starting to think seriously about the scirocco as it blows me away every time i see it close up.
-
Whats your ED 30 like? if your selling up let me know :D
-
I'll sell mine for £20k......anyone? Lol
-
I'll sell mine for £20k......anyone? Lol
Ha..yeah you can mine too for £20k...all the options apart from rears tints and airbags...
-
Well I didn't buy the car, nothing to do with the spec (although it wasnt great) or funds, all to do with it's condition. :sad1:
It had two bad scratches well more like gouges on the tailgate each about an inch and a half in length. Looks like it had been opened up into something.
The ends of the bump strips (on the doors) have chunks missing out of them, Looks like there not to carefull when opening the doors and the interior has marks all over the place. I know this type of plastic marks easy but looks like there just not that carefull overall.
So decided against it as i just wouldnt be happy everytime i looked at it and saw the marks and gouges when paying that sort of money..... the search continues......
-
Sorry to hear it was a shed Gav...you can always come round and admire mine... :signLOL:
Have you seen this one...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390223122531&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Overpriced but looks nice... :happy2:
-
Yes wasn't to happy with it pal,
haha yes thanks I'll drool over urs for a bit that'll make me feel better :signLOL:
can't get that eBay link up on my phone for some reason, I'll try when I get back in cheers :happy2:
-
Ebay one is nice but way too expensive. I'd buy a CW mk6 for that.
Regarding the other one, you could demand they sort all scratches and dings out as a condition of sale but it sounds like another case of them just reeling out a cw ed30 and lobbing an extra grand on knowing someone will probably bite.

Your absolutely right mate, thats exactly what they have done. You should of heard the Brand manager who's car it is. The Lady who was dealing with me opened up the car then buggered off to get in on the act with some more customers who had just rolled up. After looking around it and noticing all the marks etc i decided not to mess around and be honest and not have it as i honestly didnt want to have to have the tailgate sprayed...
So i go looking for her but she's now with the other customers who are looking at a polo for 12k bearing in mind im possibly spending 18k, so i ask another sale guy to let her know. He then comes back with the brand manager and when i explain to him he says "What..... What marks come and show me" Well that did it for me i said dont tell me you dont know, they have been touched up and badly at that.
He then procedes to tell me oh yes he forgot about them...bearing in mind the car was not even clean and the back was filthy.... umm i wonder why!!
I was told one wheel had a small scuff on, infact three of them did...not the end of the world but still annoys me and the interior was scuffed to sh1t..
I felt like crying cos i honestly wanted to buy the car!!
-
Jesus that's sounds a right carry on...typical...let them have the ballache of sorting it out rather than you. :happy2:
I'll keep my eye open for ya....still toying with the RS at the mo as well..do I don't I... :ashamed:

Had a Call from VW Hyde about that Ed30 in the dealers, the salesman reckons whoever saw it, saw it pre preparation...I wonder.
Is there anybody local that could pop in and have a quick squint over it for me? I REALLY REALLY want a CW Ed30 and it's a bit of a distance to travel from Glasgow just to find out it's still a pear :(

I should be in the area tomorrow mate so will try and have a nosey for you, that's if the car is actually there as it always seems to 'be out somewhere'...
-
That would be really good of you if you could! The salesman (Richard) laughed when I said I knew someone who had saw the car and said it had marks on boot lit, door trim and dotted over the interior, he said "it's probably been viewed before preperation, everything is now fixed and it is mint as you'd expect for the mileage. We'll soon see!
Thanks much! Trying to find a CW 3door manual is hard work :happy2:

Read what i put about it in this thread!!!
Its that car i looked at and i didnt buy it cos it wasnt to my standards. And i'm desperate for one to. Perhaps he's had the two scratches/dents done in the tailgate then. Which at first he said he didnt know about and then suddenly remembered it was like that from new. Yes right, if it was he could of had it done under warranty, why wouldnt you knowing it could seriously hamper the re sale value??
All i can say is it was in a sh1t state especially the tailgate which looked like the car had been given a wash a few weeks before but the tailgate not umm and near enough every interior trim is marked in one way or another. Then passenger outer door strip has a nice chip/scuff on it where the door has been opened into a wall or something. In my honest opinion the car is just a car to the owner (the brand manager and his wife) and thats not what i'm after.
Also the car is being used daily even though i put a holding deposit on it, the mileage is more now than whats stated.
There is a nice chip on the bonnet to..but i suppose your gonna get them. Oh and it doesnt have phone prep like they have put in the advert cos i checked out what spec it was before i went with my local dealer cos when i phoned they didnt know.. it does have however some crappy phone kit in it. Extra on the car from stamdard are centre arm rest and xenons, nothing else.
Rant over lol.

Lol cheers Gav, I did read what you'd put which put me off going to view it innitially but hoped it had all been sorted but yea the car does sound a bit crap overall even if it has been fixed, I'm just desperate for one I think lol..
-
That would be really good of you if you could!
Yes well i didnt find it funny driving 3 hours to find the car not there with the missus and my 4 year old boy and then having to do it all over again. i was told the car was immaculate and then find it in that state ..not even clean... i honestly think they are crap there but that is only my opinion

Bloody disgraceful. Dav, please update how you get on ...maybe they'll start treating customers trying to pay over the odds with a bit more respect!
-
Yea it is a bit of a disgrace when someone has that kind of money you think they would bend over backwards and rectify any faults, especially as the car has only done that kind of mileage.
Beddie, please dont go out of your way but if you are local that would be great as I would like to know if it is back up to mint standard, and if not i'll be telling the guy what I think of him for trying to get me to travel all the way to see something that isn't as described!
Again, thanks.

I'm due to go to a job in Hyde tomorrow all being well so no probs popping in there :happy2:
Called in twice a couple of weeks back on the same day for Gav but on both occasions the car was out? Hopefully it will be on site tomorrow..

Fingers crossed eh fella's, but knowing Gav... :signLOL: it will be as he states it was. :chicken:
You'd have thought to they would have stopped using it if they are seriously trying to sell it... :rolleye:
Gav...should have taken some pics whilst you were there... :innocent:

At this rate i'll need to start considering other colours :(

Thats what i dont get. They are silly not to. But this really is a private sort of sale, although they have it advertised as vw Hyde and they are giving the relevant vw bumf with it. It doesnt directly belong to vw hyde cos its owned by the brand managers wife.
Gav...should have taken some pics whilst you were there... :innocent:
Yes wish i had now. Hopefully they have sorted most of it, not sure how they could sort the interior without changing it though. Lets hope its ok and Dav buys it :happy2:
Its just a matter of principle for me now i couldnt buy it even if i wanted to now cos of how i feel!!

Ok, just been down and had a good luck both inside and out the car, still pretty grubby in general, 2 of the alloys are kerbed on the outer edge and the 3rd has a stone chip on the rim, tailgate still has the 2 scratches that have been filled in with a touch up pen, rub strip edge marks are IMO minor as mine are in worse nick lol, interior is a bit grubby and has marks to the trim on the drivers seat base and behind where the drivers seatbelt clip hangs,
IMO with a good clean and 10 mins with a magic sponge will have the interior perfectly fine...
Alloys need attention as does the tailgate but they reckon that will be sorted before sale...
As I type someone else obviously agrees as they are buying it apparently!

Sound pal, its looking slightly better then. There was some bad marks on the centre arm rest console, just below the actual arm rest itself if that makes sense. Not sure how they got there. it was on the drivers side. Wonder if they are still there.
Must admit i am fussy but suppose its cos its alot of money.

Yeah theres nothing wrong with being fussy and wanting everything 100% when your spending that much cash! :happy2:
The scuffs on the drivers door bottom and the seat base seem to be on most golfs including mine as its where your shoes hit as you get in and out and i rubbed a couple off with a wet finger lol, magic sponge eraser thingy works wonders on interior scuffs and should get rid of the armrest ones no probs i think, the mark on the drivers seat bolster should come better with some leather conditioner but the ones behind the seatbelt clip on the b pillar would probably have to remain..looks like a lady driver with some heavy duty diamond rings has been fumbling for the seatbelt imo...
Main problem with interior is that it is just plain grubby and has not been presented for sale at all imo, needs a good hoover and apc'ing to get it up to standard but underneath the fluff i feel it will be fine...
Alloys would require a refurb for me to be totally happy but would need all 4 for colour matching, tailgate scratch needs a proper repair (SMART etc) and i would be happy with the door strip edges as they are better than the ones on mine haha!
My thoughts? Dealer sorts the alloys and tailgate, chip them on price to pay for a JPC detail and a tenner for some silver paint for the rusty hubs and you'd have a very very nice car! :happy2:
Apparently the car is now sold awaiting the above issues being sorted / valet and the potential new buyer was doing the paperwork as i asked for the keys lol!
-
Champion Beddie thanks for going mate much appreciated, it sounds to me like they just need to clean the damn thing up and it would possibly have been OK!
But if it's sold then there's no point in worrying about that now I don't suppose!
The hunt continue's..... :signLOL:

Your welcome mate :happy2:
Sales guy did say to ring on saturday to check whether the sale goes through as planned, apparently quite a few people get cold feet, fail the finance or find out the insurance is mega high etc so you never know...
-
Yea that's true! did you say you were viewing it on behalf or someone or just pose as a potential buyer? :)

Just said i was viewing on behalf of a friend lol, got some pics on my phone so will pop them up

:signLOL: And me pal.
I suppose everyones standards are different and everyones idea of immaculate are to. I dont think i could give them my money now even if i wanted it. Cut my nose off to spite my face sort of thing. Just wasnt happy with the service.
Yes give them a call Dav you never know mate :happy2:
Oh and thanks Beddie for popping in twice to have a look for me your a star
-
TBH my standards are pretty high, but im the kinda guy who would buy that and then make it mint by sourcing the parts myself OR get them to knock some cash off so I could then fix it, It's going to be hard to find one of these cars so i'm willing to do a bit of work to get it back upto scratch!
If it was any common car then i'd hang off for a minter...
the joys of motoring :signLOL:
-
Gav/Dav, no probs at all at going to have a look at the car, happy to help out in some way as i had a nightmare driving all over the bloody place trying to find my ED, so honestly happy to help
Sales guy did say it would be taken off the net today if sold... seems its still there and now has £500 off which should easily pay for some detailing magic...

Awesome, I'll give them a ring tomorow and see if they will either knock money off to repair the boot/wheels/door strips etc or fix it!
:D

Fair play to ya mate, i think my problem is as soon as i see something not quite right thats it, i totally go off the car. I'm not to good with this detailing stuff so find it hard to see what stuff can be easily sorted and whats more serious, it just all looks serious to me :signLOL:
Your not wrong about trying to find one, i think ive pretty much given up and gonna go for another colour :sad1:
Def give them a ring though, i noticed they dropped the price by £500 on monday i think they did it.
-
Although, I do wonder why the other person buying it has backed out since yesterday!?

Although, I do wonder why the other person buying it has backed out since yesterday!?
Guess its possible that they just havent got round to taking it off the net yet then? Someone had 'bought' mine before i got it but got declined on the finance and couldnt raise the funds elsewhere so had to back out, i signed on the dotted just as another guy who had drove his VXR 300 miles from Essex to buy it had pulled up in the car park...
Car buying.. bloody nightmare!

Yeah they'll get the touch up stick out....
Dav...to get the boot looking right they end up painting it and if your unlucky they take it off breaking all the paint seals on the hinges... :jumping:
I guess the plastics could be sorted but the bump strips would be replaced if I had my way.. :happy2:
Anyway good luck on getting some more wonga knocked off it.. :happy2:
