Hi guys, I was wondering what was the safest way to erase the marks that removing wheel weights have left?
I had my front tyres replaced recently and while rebalancing they removed all the weights, but I'm now left with unsightly black marks.
TIA

It's probably mainly foam with adhesive underneath it. Best bet is a wheels off approach for better access. I normally peel off as much foam as I can then use some tardis to melt the adhesive.
Then it might still need some claying. That should get rid of it all ;)

x2 I did mine lastweek. What a nightmare! Now I know why the tyre fitters don't bother taking them off!
-
id cry if the tyre fitter tried to get the old marks off! i can just see him with his screwdriver now! :signLOL:

theres hope then! :notworthy:

I think I managed to get mine off with claying.
-
You can go straight to claying but if there is a lot of foam, it will just jam into the clay
-
Don't think I had any problems with huge amounts of foam.
-
All I'm saying is, if there's still foam on the adhesive, don't start with clay lol
-
Not disagreeing with you Jay. For sure, clay+foam isn't a great idea but personally didn't have much if any foam to deal with. hence PW + bilberry 4:1 + clay sorted my rims out. Obviously what's required depends entirely on what's present.
Now Jay, what's the best way of getting gloss black paint marks off my wheels without damaging the finish?
-
Paint?! how did that happen?
If it just light overspray, you might be lucky and it hasnt bonded too strong.
If so, get some megs aggressive clay, then it will need a polish.
If its a fairly big dollop, good luck! :signLOL:
-
No. Muggins here tried painting the hubs and didn't leave it to dry long enough before putting the rims back on.
I'm not too fussed since they'll be refurbed in the distant future.

I used 'tardis' to remove the marks from the 'glue'
Stu
-
Tardis it is then - can you get it from Halfords or am I best ordering some online?
-
Tardis is a professional only product. You can only buy it in 5l tins. You can get autoglym bug and tar remover from Halfords :)
-
If Tardis is good stuff I don't mind buying it in bulk. Besides a 5L tin will most probably last me a lifetime
-
Yep it's good. Just be careful. A lot of people think it's completely safe to throw over your car. It is safe if you don't let it dry. If you do let it dry, it will stain paint and you won't be able to rectify it.
Polished bliss sell it online for about 20 quid

Would it polish out or would it be severe enough to warrant a respray?
