Title: Bluetooth help
Post by: scooba on August 10, 2010, 07:14:02 am
Hi ,I have read some off the posts about  the subject and are a little confused,I have a June 08 GTI ED30 ,it has RNS510  with Highline  is there a way I can be 100% sure before I start it hasnt already got Bluetooth installed ,If it hasnt exactly what kit would you guys advise I buy it needs to be OEM as std look is what id require

Is fitting easy ?,would it require coding ,I live in Sussex near Eastbourne is there a local company anyone would use ?? advise me to use ?? .What sort of cost to get it up and working thanks in advance.

If you need my RNS sw or model number how do I find that without removing it from the dash ,again thx

If you look under the drivers seat and see a control unit there then it has BT, likewise if you scan for BT devices in your car and find one, normally with UHV in the name then again you have BT.

Fitting is about a 3 spanner job (in Haynes Talk) and yes it would need coding after installation.

The 739E is probably the most common kit at the moment, but as you may have already read it doesn't interface with your highline.  That isn't a problem because the RNS510/voice will handle everything.

The kits seem to be around the £300 - £350 mark.  Beware of the eBay ones which don't include everything you need.

I am in the PO postcode area and can help if you like, I also have a 729E available.  Drop me a PM if you are interested.

The 729E works fine it just doesn't display on the red dash insert (Highline).

It definitely works with an iphone 3G evev on ios 4.

Scooba, have a read round this thread:

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,17692.msg252052.html#msg252052

If you press the 'Phone' button on your MFD and all it does is mute the audio, you haven't got an integrated Bluetooth fitted.

My 729E was supplied & fitted by SteveP. We live about 180 miles apart, so simply arranged to meet half way. the job took about an hour in a Motorway Service area car park.

It's a great piece of kit, there's nothing visible unless you look under the driver's seat, and the integration is excellent. I don't have highline, but I don't think it's necessary; everything can be controlled from the touchscreen on the 510. No issues with iphone 3GS running 4.01 :happy2:

Ask vRStu nicely & he may be able to sort something. Ditto SteveP. I highly recommend the 729E :happy2:
