Title: MFSW fitted - but missing some functionality? (Skipping tracks)
Post by: SeanyK on August 11, 2010, 03:19:21 pm
Hey folks!

Pleased with my ED30 DSG MFSW retrofit.

Although ONE slight issue!

The up/down arrow buttons do not change the track nor fast forward/rewind when held down.

The volume buttons work, the arrow keys just scroll through the display.
The star button is mute.

I don't use a VW head unit, I use an alpine but I am pretty sure I wired in the CAN-BUS steering adaptor for it (I must of otherwise the volume buttons surely wouldnt work)

Any ideas? Or am I going to have to go highline to fix this?

On my car, i have to change the menu to display "Kenwood" then the arrows control the HU, otherwise, like you say, it just moves thru the trip menu.
If you press the menu button on the wheel, what functions does it go thru?
On mine, i get the trip menu (MPG, range etc) Then the Setup Menu (configure the highline features etc) then Kenwood (Full control of the HU)

Sean, do you have a list of all the parts and part numbers that you needed to do the swap?

Cheers
Kenny

Hi mate,

You need;

1) MFSW (I went for an ED30 DSG Paddled MFSW) from eBay.

2) Air bag wiring harness (if reusing your existing airbag) part number is 1k0 971 584 L (Approx £32 from dealers).

3) Steering wheel control module, I have 1k0 953 549 AQ and it worked - check your steering control module as you may not need one if your existing one supports MFSW the part numbers are the same, just the letters differ at the end.
Do you or know anyone near with Vag-Com who can check your Steering module?

If you are buying from a dealer, you can ask them for 1k0 953 549 CH but it's about £140.

That's all you need parts wise :)

No worries man,

What I love about it is, the buttons light up and the paddles - and + light up too when the lights are on.

Nice feature :)

If you already have the paddles all you need is the left and right buttons, every thing else is there.
No need for extra controllers or wiring looms just plug the buttons in and have fun pressing them...? :signLOL:

On my car right now I have a standard non M/F or paddle shift wheel, I got an Ed30 one with paddles and M/F off of ebay so am looking to fit it. So reckon I need the new wiring loom and to check out what controller I have?

Hi mate, you definately need the wiring loom for the airbag.

As for controller, I would imagine you'd need one, if you have, or know someone local, with VCDS they can check your steering controller in a couple of minutes, then you'll know for sure man.
