Does anyone know where i can get decent lighter R32 Discs for my Octavia. I currently have the OEM one's on and they don't half way some.
I have had a quick look round but can't seem to find what make etc to get and what size they are. I believe they are 345mm x 32mm but not entirely sure.
Not interested in wether they are better or not. As long as they are lighter & perform to the same standard as the OEM ones then thats fine. Not fussed by grooves but don't want drilled as had bad experiences with discs cracking due to being cross drilled.

Didn't really notice it on my Ed. Maybe DaveB has something in his box of tricks.
I believe the weight of the discs is why the bigger braked VAGs get alloy hubs up front but I could be wrong. :chicken:

It's not that i notice it really.
Was just i noticed when carrying them to the car for fitting that they are a damn sight heavier than the 312's that came off :signLOL:

'CompBrake' do a 2 piece disc for the R32/S3 but its 345mm x 32mm, oem size is 345mm x 30mm so you would have to take a few mm's of your pads to fit, quality doesnt seem to be all that tbh and they'll cost you around £400 a pair!
'CTF' which is an italian company do a 2 piece also and its in the correct 30mm width and top notch quality although 700Euro a pair plus shipping! :surprised:
I'd stick to good quality oems and offset the weight with S3 alloy wishbones/ hubs....

DaveB does a drilled stock disc, that must loose some weight :laugh:

I saw some pictures that Dave put up of a J-grooved disc. Not sure if that was R32 or not :confused:

the're good, runnin with some pagid pads and braided hoses he also supplied, anything was better than the originals as they were really past there best :smiley:
only used them on the road though :happy2:

I couldn't belive the weight in them to, ridic! Interested to find a suitable road set up thats lighter and no noisy

I can get you some AP discs with custom bells made. They would be fully floating. The main problem is the cost of the AP discs. Mega bucks!

Alex - AP already do a disc kit for the R32/S3 it has the bells and bobbins all included. About £500 if I recall.
As mentioned they do normally come with alloy hubs these things which mitigates the weight a little bit. My point being is that they are what they are and they cost what they cost. Its been discussed before about putting expensive discs on iron setups - its fairly pointless.
I just cant help think the money would be better deployed elsewhere, have a read of the NQS BBK thread which is the most read thread of 2010 and the third best read thread in the sites history - Its generated a lot of interest, I think the reason it hasn't been more popular is the fact that theres some effort involved in sourcing the calipers and getting them fitted, give me 4 pots on lighter 312's over single piston Audi rep mobile brakes anyday and repmobile brakes over 312's
The R32/S3 setup is convenient and bolt on and readily available, it is what it is and it does what it does for reasonable money, dont expect too much of it and its a great affordable setup thats good value, once you start trying to improve it you quickly get into the realms of diminishing returns.
Tom had good results with M1144's and the grooved or drilled disc versions add aesthetic/performance benefits when pressing on but you've pretty much hit the development limit with them by doing these upgrades.
That said Ive done a J hook version but I'm practising what Im preaching and feeling a bit embarrased about asking 200 per pair, maybe I should put a Tarox sticker on them

I wasn't really after them being any better as the R32 kit is perfect for my needs.
Was just after really reducing some of the extra weight. Not too fussed though.

I got a set from TPS on a discount day for about £170 incl pads

I'm sure my drilled and powder coated rascals from Dave were a similar price including pagid pads:smiley:
