Title: some interesting performance car reading for the geeks amongst you
Post by: Janner_Sy on August 16, 2010, 02:03:23 pm
found this internet site interesting.  http://www.rri.se/index.php?DN=29 (http://www.rri.se/index.php?DN=29)

656 different vehicles, 1 dyno (hub dyno so accurate),

and comparison graphs of manufacturer stated output Vs actual output.  Quite alot of surprising on the outputs and confirming what people thought about the likes of the focus RS etc

all the below are with reference to the manufacturer claims

Golf edition 30 8 Hp under
Golf GTI 5Hp under
mk6 golf GTI TSI 5hp up
Golf R32 23Hp under
Leon cupra 11hp under
Octavia vRS 2Hp under
Scirroco R  2Hp up
scirroco TSI 8Hp under
Audi S3 2Hp under
Audi TT 3.2 S tronic 30Hp under

so the TFSi engines seem to be pretty much on the money.  the V6 not so much.

now for the other hot hatches

Focus RS is 20hp under
Civic type R is 16hp
Meganne RS250 18hp
Focus ST is 9hp under
08 impreza STI 30Hp under
Astra VXR  11Hp under
Vectra VXR 38Hp under
Mazda 3 MPS is bang on the money,
Mazda 6 MPS is 7Hp above
Nissan 350Z is 34Hp under

can you tell im bored

8bhp for an edition 30?

VW state 230bhp. Mine managed 232 and 227bhp on the same rollers several months apart.

I could count on one hand the amount of ED30/Cupra/GTI/S3's i've seen run under manufacturers figures and i'd still have enough fingers to pleasure the Mrs...

I didn't think an R32 could afford to lose 23hp!  :signLOL: :signLOL:

I reckon people would notice if their car was missing 20-30hp!  :surprised:

Thing is, even though it's done on the same dyno, all sorts of stuff affects empirical readings like this. Weather, humidity, what day of the week it was, Earth's gravitational spin, sunspots, cosmic rays, etc., etc.

It would still be the fastest car in the world though.......  :driver:

Time for my medication nurse.

I think those figures are suspect.
I don't understand why a hub dyno is so accurate compared to any other dyno. All they measure is work.

not just the R32 that does it though is it, its also the TT 3.2 V6.  on a seriou note they do seem strange, ive seen with my own eyes an R32 on the same rollers as me and make its expected output as well as my car make whats expected.  either that or my stage 1 was actually making 210hp andnot 240hp

isnt that a PS stated output??

I thought one of the things that makes the hub dyno more accurate than the usual rolling cylinder varient is that the car is not strapped down and therefore does not lurch up the rollers giving slightly increased readings.  we've all seen the JKM speal about how much extra Hp you can get by loosening the straps slightly. so by removing any strapping variation and lurching the hub dyno should surely be more accurate.

The substantially lower figures are all using 4wd systems, maybe its just showing the extra loss in the drive train?
