I used engine degreaser, worked it in with a brush, repeated several times then with all the muck off, autoglym metal polish and wirewool/washing up pad/microfibre cloth.

I actually do it on a different day to when I was the car as it's so much effort. I need knee pads.

Yes because they probably wont know what to do even if you ask nicely. they'll probably throw brick acid (aka wheel cleaner) on there and tarnish it

Yeah someone told me to use autoglym wheel cleaner on it, would that be a bad move?

We need a 'banging your head on a brick wall' smiley!

No Tara, it needs metal polish and something to aggrevate the contamiate, ie wire wool. Than a nice clean MF cloth to buff it up!  :happy2:

If I were you I'd take up Jay's offer!  :happy2:

Pot of a metal polish Megs/autoglym your local Halfords will do for less than £10. Or if your loaded then you can get something more specialist.

I use Megs NXT, apply it then leave for a few minutes then buff off. My pipes were in pi55 poor condition. After a couple of times they are starting to look a little better.

As everyone else has been saying.

Metal polish (Autoglym, Autosol etc) Wire wool and elbow grease.

Once done buff of with a microfibre cloth and your tips will be nice and shiny :happy2:

Or save yourself the hard work and go to Jay. If i didn't live 350 miles away i'd be taking my car to him :happy2:

What they said....I followed Mandy's advice and got some degreaser (and some marrigolds), rinsed and repeated a few times. Then with some very fine wire wool just gently rubbed more degreaser in.....then used some very fine wet and dry to clean off the tips (rolled steel) and finished off with some autoglym metal polish.

Spent less than a tenner all in all and worked really well. Now just clean up every week as part of my "routine"

Wife still takes the pith everytime I get the marrigolds out though!

One year I left my exhaust pipes uncleaned for a winter and they were looking crap. So i used a really fine wire wool and rubbed the exhaust with it until I got all the crap off. Then I used some Meguiars NXT All Metal Polish. I apply this every time I clean the car and it stays spotless!

The NXT has protective properties in it which stop corrosion. Well recommended but make sure you keep rubbing it rather than wiping it off :happy2:
