They've come down in price then? I was quoted £54 for the pair.

^^ Perhaps because the mk5 is no longer its latest product, and thus bring parts prices down ..

Be careful, My mate has just had some open grill from ebay and the quality is far from good and dont match upto the gti fogs like mine do, look almost as if the were designed for different fogs, Standard golf projecter balls maybe?

I just picked up my OEM ones from the local dealer at just under £62. Bought them to replace a pair i bought from e-bay which had the same problem as Jaywoo's friend. The new ones look fantastic. Should have done it in the first place. Its worth that little bit more for the OEM look!

has anyone a product code for these?

Could be a nice addition even if its just on the passenger side to aid air to an open filter?

if you do a search, you'll find several threads on this. In fact, you'll even find a thread  where I tell another forumite to do the search and then post up the threads because he couldn't find them!

Can anyone here order me a set of these please? My local garage has been given the parts number, and said that he could not find the item using that number?  :stupid:

In that case your dealer needs to search for the part on the VWUK system they will be on there. The dealer has probably never sold the grills before so the part no will not have been created on his system :happy2:

I've not seen the official ones up close but I don't see anything wrong with these ones. Still not entirely sure as to the point of the openness but I like it  :happy2:

:signLOL: Supposed to do with getting extra cooling up into the airbox when you get that new twintake fitted. Not sure if it works for the brakes too?

Just a query Weston, how long did they take to ship from purchase date?

I bought them on the 8th and they arrived on the 13th so they are quick. I'd like a twintake a lot. Maybe I can justify it by saying the grills require it?  :

....The story goes that once-upon-a-time Little Red Riding Hood Volkswagen supplied open grilles on DSG Mk5 GTI's destined for hotter climate countries. The intention was to increase DSG oil cooling. However, they found (apparently) that the oil didn't need further cooling and that the grills were ineffective anyway.

Subsequently, modding folks decided they looked cool and some thought they would route colder air to somewhere useful. But others thought this was internet bullsh!t. VW are obliged to supply them as original equipment replacements and they have wildly (The Big Bad Wolf's influence) fluctuated in price. Inevitably, the real villains have made very poor quality copies and some of those are sold on fleeBay but there are some genuine ones there too.... Apparently.

I've just fitted the OEM VW versions. I'd hardly call them the best £62 I've ever spent.

Yup I think T_T said our cars would take off, or the whole front end would rip off or something?  :signLOL: :signLOL:

I can guarantee these will happily stay on the front of the car at well over 150mph on both the German Autobahn and the Nurburgring!  :happy2:

Disclaimer: The bit about the car taking off etc was a pi$$ take!

Ouch   :stupid:

How different can they really be to the non-VW ones

I guess the air vent on the passenger side one is the biggest difference. I don't know, visually it works, but the fit isn't fantastic. Just seems like a lot of money for what they are.

About a year ago, they were going for £18 per pair. Demand has driven the price up.
