about 5...
-
that took me about 5-6 seconds. which when i saw the file size i was mightily impressed!
-
its 11m/b so when my line is up to speed, it will do it in between 1 and 2 seconds. but it takes a few seconds for it to reach full speed
-
Awesome pic though
-
took me about 20!
i usually just use this! :happy2:  http://www.speedtest.net/
-
Wow, no problem at all!!
5mins 28secs!!! :nerd:
Isn't BTInternet brilliant!! :rolleye:
I think my exchange is on Pluto!
-
11sec for me on BT Broadband
How big is the file?
-
Only a second or 2.... didnt realise it was so wide tho lol.... Gotta love work web connections, sure its somthing like 151mb apparently!
-
image is ...
Size: 18,523.26 kB (18,967,821 bytes)
Dimensions: 30,000px × 1,000px
-
it is an absolutely brilliant picture, no doubt!
I wonder what lens they used! :signLOL:
-
35 seconds on my alleged 10mb sky broadband done the speed est and its 3.3mb

My dad has 50Mb broadband and that is very fast.
He gets a figure similar to what you posted there Jay :happy2:
I just get around 5mb :sad1: 6.5 is my highest on a good day :sad1:
-
i dont really see that speedtest.net as being too accurate tbh, when im doing some heavy downloading, my DL speed will always top 50meg. it think its something to do with how much data your downloading. :S
-
I'm with BT though so im used to crap speeds
Bit of a sh!tter that i can only get BT here :sad1:
-
im on the phone to sky broadband now. they are raising a technical investigation about my connection.
i appreciate the small print said upto 20mb, but im on the top package and there seems to be 17mb of this broadband missing somewhere.
-
Small point chaps but given the forum has had a few issues recently hammering the bandwidth for this may not be the best of ideas!!

I wouldn't trust those ^^^ figures as I'm sure you have a faster connection than me yet my result is

-
If you are using Speedtest.net then you really should disable your anti-virus as that can affect the results.
-
check out my beast, makes yours look slow   think i need to find a new provider because sky cant get any better around my area than 3.7 according to their technical dept

This is my usual average

Best i have got is 6.3 MB/Sec. Not good when BT keep telling me i should get a min of 8meg and theoretically upto 20meg as im on an ADSL2+ enabled line :sad1:
Bit of throttling going on me thinks :fighting: :fighting:

What connection stats (including attenuation) do you see in your router?
-
In english please
-
Is this what your after?
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fww275%2FTaufe%2FScreenshot2010-08-17at212808.png&hash=bd4170e40250f293ff3396463d97b61495a0d5a8)
Just did that now after resetting my router to see if it did anything for the speed.
It did FECK all :fighting: :fighting:
EDIT - Just did another test and got this Mahoooooosive increase

You are still in adsl not adsl 2+ mode as your modulation is G 992.1.
Your attenuation is very good suggesting you are close to the exchange but your noise margin (both Up and down) is very high. The usual value is 6db down suggesting you either have an unstable line that resynchs often or BT is capping your speed.
-
So how do i change the ADSL Mode to get ADSL2+
I reckon that BT are capping the speed aswell the feckers :fighting:
-
Assuming the router supports adsl 2+ then you should be able to change it somewhere in the router's configuration settings.
-
I'm with virgin media (only cos I don't have a bt line into my house)...... running speedtest, i'm in Glasgow it says, when I select the Aberdeen server I get 6.1mbs.....if I change the server to derry for the test I get 9.5mbs.... :stupid:
I think I pay for 10mbs.
Pity in normal use I can come off of that Derry server  (or can I?)
-
Came down in about 1-2 seconds, I am on my work connection which since we are an NSP is fairly fat:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Flh5.ggpht.com%2F_4kAgpBiQyvk%2FTGzkX4PxmKI%2FAAAAAAAAALA%2F0rgIoHaDsvw%2Fspeed%2520test.JPG&hash=58a7af3f6d05cf540ed8663e92064dd444d184ef)
Its our own service, for people to run servers off of, linked to our office over a Dark fibre lit at 1GE, so the limitation here is how quickly the speed test servers can work and the TCP/IP ack limitation if over longer distances.
-
Took less than 2 seconds......
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.speedtest.net%2Fresult%2F920151113.png&hash=e9acd673758bfe95e38bc01410b5a1bd3c1aeb77) (http://www.speedtest.net)

That's impossible. Your line can download at 1.97 mb per seconds (when at top speed) and the file Is 12mb. :signLOL:

Could have been cached or proxied by his ISP...
-
Still wouldnt of worked, if you take the megabits per second figure that speed test.net gives you divide it by 8 you then have the number of mega bytes you can transfer per second, so 18Mega Bytes divided by 1.97 Megabytes and you get how long it would take to download any file.
The cache will decrease the distance and latency for each packet which can slow the transfer down, but it wont make the pipe between your house and your ISP router any bigger.

I ain't got a tube'a'glue what any of your are on about but I downloaded the image and it was done in less than two seconds then ran the speed test and thats what came up?!
I just did it again too. Right clicked, save image, 2 secs later its downloaded it in its entirety.................or am I missing something?
-
haha, im not saying your lying mate, :signLOL: just with the speed test given and the image size, it doesnt seem to add up. And im intrigued to learn why!
if you havent tube'a'glue, well, its like saying a ford fiesta can do 0-60 in 4 seconds. with the info there in the last statement, its defies physics! if we later find its an all wheel drive 1100hp fiesta, i could understand that!
-
Maybe he is only downloading the size of the image on screen and not the full 18.1mb
Rather than actually downloading the full image he is just saving the image that is displayed on the screen.
I haven't used windows like that in a while but don't you have to left click on the image to load it in full then right click and save?
That would explain the 2 sec download time.

:signLOL: Relax mate I didn't think you were and if the figures don't add up they don't add up which begs the question, whats going wrong....or er, right?
Am I downloading it correctly with a right click and save image?
-
On the image you have already downloaded. Right click on it. Left click properties and see what size it says it is.
That will tell you if you have downloaded the displayed image or the full 18.1mb :happy2:
-
It says its 18,524kb. I've downloaded at ten versions now and its always around 2 seconds? :surprised:
-
My Internets did it in about 10 seconds. (Virgin Media)

Clear your temporary internet cache and try again.
-
Does anyone know or can figure out what the actual physical dimension of this image is as a 1:1? I've got access to large scale plotters at work and fancy printing it out.
-
Actual print dimensions are 30000 x 1000 pixels or 491.61 cm x 16.39 cm
HTH
-
5 METRES!!! :signLOL: Think i'd better print that when the boss's out of the office. :fighting2:
-
Holy crap, that's beautiful. I want it. Does anyone know what wiki article links to it?
We've got a plotter too but 5m might be taking it a bit too far...
-
We used our old plotters for printing out proofs for the presses but since we've gone over to soft proofing they don't get used. Think I can use them as an excercise to test the old kit?? :innocent:
-
Well i now get this using my connection in work
