Title: Edition 30 P's Build thread! 365bhp
Post by: Edition_30_P on August 18, 2010, 12:58:55 am
Hi Guys!!

Well On Saturday I finally started to mod my Car so, I thought I'd share it with you all as I'm actually quite excited (Like a big kid  ) I owned up until a year ago a Black 56 plate Polo Gti which I owned from new and loved to bits! Whilst owning this I had an APR stage 1 map on it along with a Forge intake which gave me about 21bhp (estimated) It was completely bonkers and struggled for traction. Went through Tyres like sweets! Heres what it loooked like! I also fitted an aftermarket Xenon conversion kit to it....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fphilly_09_1984%2FMy_Edition_30_Build_Thread%2FSNV30458.jpg&hash=1b335afd17d7845ee02a8fab54c2ffa933793295)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fphilly_09_1984%2FMy_Edition_30_Build_Thread%2FSNV30461.jpg&hash=52bc61bf5a9a637f1417d95da753195a12c698a2)

Anyway, sold it last year June  :sad1:...... But got this  !
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fphilly_09_1984%2FMy_Edition_30_Build_Thread%2FDayIgotmyPescarassprayed.jpg&hash=706d6a064db4a64845dc4170be4c78cc05f166d0)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fphilly_09_1984%2FMy_Edition_30_Build_Thread%2FMyEditon30No2.jpg&hash=49c15d516c799bef976f1eb8d6b6b59ebab6d549)

Its an 07 Edition 30. I wanted Silver or Gun Grey as I struggled to keep my Polo clean But, at the time I didn't see any so, this is what I took Home from Camberly Volkswagen. As standard it has Xenon Headlights and Cruise control. I love the Car to pieces!! Anyway enough of the chit chat! On Saturday I decided as my warranty had run out to start slippin down the BIG slope. So I took a trip to my mate Reuben @ Tuningwerkes and said we need to crack the whip and get Sh*t popping! So I got APR Stage 1 Map, a Forge Twintake which then changed to an ITG, WALK kit, AP Coilovers and (Thanks big time Ash and Chris) my 18" Audi A8 Fat 5's!! I also decided to go with Blueflame and get the cat back which I ordered today!! So on Saturday I will be fitting my WALK, AP's and my wheels at work. My ITG won't be here til Monday Tuesday and, the Blueflame should be sometime this week or next.

I will get pictures up on Satureday of the fitting but, until then cheers for reading and watch this space!

Next on the list:
*S3/R32 Front set up
*Forge/S3 Intercooler
*APR High Pressure Fuel Pump
*Upgrade to Stage 2+ with APR or REVO (Not decided yet!!??)
*Eibach F&R Roll Bars

Wont you need more than the catback to go to stage 2+? You will need the full TBE

I know i need a TBE but, I won't get the full TBE till i get my HPFP and decide on which software I decide to go for!!

UPDATE:

Well today was the day my Wheels and Coilovers were to be fitted. I've been so excited this week.. They say not to wish your life away but, I could'nt wait for Saturday to come. All week at work the Techs have been trying to get me to change my mind and keep my Pescaras and, today before we started I almost did! :surprised:

My mate Chris who's a Tech at work did most of the work and, a big shout out to him cos this would'nt have been possible without him. And, he did it for free!! :happy2:

Enough talkin heres some pics!!

It was funny too because, it took four of us to get the near side rear spring of!! It didn't want to budge. The Techs were giving it to me as when we were prying the spring out I was hiding behind a pillar. Didn't want the spring to fly out and hit me which it did but in my Back :ashamed:!

UPDATE:

Well since I fitted my Coilies on Saturday I've been experiencing a knocking noise coming from the front of my Car! I wou d the Coilies up and people were telling me that I shouldn't be having them kind of problems. Well, yesterday at work we thought it was the roll bar making the noise but, today I went to TuningWerkes and got Reuben to look at it for me. After a thorough seeing to it's a problem that I've raised with VW on 4 different occasions.. My Steering Rack! So vie contacted VW and told them the situation and they're going to sort it as a good will, thank god!

Today whilst at TuningWerkes I picked up the following to be fitted tomorrow at work! Can't wait!!

Watch this space... A lot more to come!

Can't wait to get these fitted! Car should sound wicked and handle incredibly! Oh, also got this the other day which I'm also going to fit..

UPDATE:

Today I fitted mr ITG Intake and my "Revision D". The ITG to about 40 mins to fit with the help of my mates at work. When fitted, tightened And secured we fired it up, it ran for 3-5 seconds then cut out!? We did it again and the same thing again!!?? We then hooked the computer up to the. Ar and it said there was too much air being given to the Car! So we unplugged the MAF sensor and it runs fine! So I need to find out whether I need a new MAF sensor as the old one got damaged or, whether the Intake only works properly on stage 2!?

Anyway, the sound it makes is BONKERS!! The chat when you give it some  I love!

nice, my itg runs fine with the maf, just make sure you don't over oil the filter as this can screw up the maf, this wouldn't happen just after starting though.
Title: Re: Edition 30 P's Build thread!
Post by: Edition_30_P on August 28, 2010, 06:56:42 pm
Ok. I thought it should be ok but, I've been told otherwise. On Tuesday I will check a ne MAF sensor and take it from there! If too much Oil was sprayed on (Which I don't think was ) How would i rectify this? How can I clean it?
Title: Re: Edition 30 P's Build thread!
Post by: gobbleplease on August 28, 2010, 08:25:33 pm
I don't think it will be because of the oil as this would of took a while to work in to the maf maybe after a few weeks and not just after the first start up, I fecked my maf up on my mk4 gti from doing this.
Title: Re: Edition 30 P's Build thread!
Post by: Edition_30_P on August 28, 2010, 09:35:32 pm
So, would you guys recommend that I try changing the MAF and seeing what happens from there!? My mates at work said that could be a problem..... Hopefully it is jus that as I've run out of money for now so don't know when I could get my TBE, Intercooler or HPFP to get to Stage 2!?

I've just been sitting here doing some research and thinking.... I was going to order the S3 Intercooler from work and use that but, I've also been looking into the Forge Twintake for a while! And, from what I can see the Forge gives better, rapid cooling!?.. I just would like to know what people's experience's or opinion's on the 2 is!? I was at first thinking to get both but, if i Just went with the Forge that should do the trick for Stage 2+ should'nt it!? I don't want to buy the S3 one then have to go and buy the Forge!

Cheers guys!!  :happy2:

THS is the max IC core you can squeze into the original location, app. same outer size as the much more expensive APR IC but with a bigger core. so better than S3, and no need for a front mounted IC

i have the APR  one, the THS wasn't on the marked when i did my build. still haven't found any info as to how much effect the endtank design has,  the THS has smaller endtanks but dunno what it does effectwise. Still both are the top dogs for the mk V platform  :happy2:

UPDATE

Today at work I fitted my ECS Dog Bone Mount and my WALK! HUGE DIFfERENCE! The gear changing feels smoother and sharper. The WALK is the best! I'd recommend everyone get it! The car is just so planted! I called Awesome today as they are the head office for APR in UK amd, I'm going to get a refund and the map wiped! They don't know why the stage 1 map isn't liking my ITG! I've even changed the MAF sensor so, it's not that! I'm going to get it done next week and then take a trip to REVO!

Other than that problem I loved the APR map. Does anyone run an ITG with stage 1 REVO or APR!? I would like to know if anyone has experienced this problem also?

The ITG was developed on a revo'd ED 30.  :happy2:

Was it stage 1 or 2, TC? If it was stage 1 then I'm gonna definitely go for REVO!! Don't have the money at the mo to get the exhaust, intercooler and HPFP so can't go stage 2. So if it works with REVO Stage 1 alone then thats the route I'm gonna be taking!!

I spoket to REVO @ Ed38 yesterday and, they said that ITG's work fine with they're Stage 1 and even down to an Exhaust in addition to the Intake would run of Stage 1. So waiting to see if APR can sort this for me and, if not then a trip to REVO on Friday or Saturday!

UPDATE:

Yesterday I went to Tuningwerkes and got the APR map taken of my Car. To say the least Reuben wasn't happy but, if my car isn't performing and, APR don't have a solution the I'm entitled to change!! Went to AMD Essex as I booked in with them on Wednesday to get REVO Stage 1. Drove down to AMD with the Car standard and, it was horrible     !!

Got down there and, they did a befor rolling road tes and it read 225 and after it read 287bhp which they said will change with v-power in and once its run in. The only difference at the moment i notice is that the APR boosts quicker than REVO but once it gets goin its ok. But the the intake problem is sorted so i'm happy now!  :happy2:

dont forget the REVO can be tweaked BTF values with the select plus handset so you prob have more available  :happy2:
did they set it up at all?

cant believe APR cant help with stg1+ITG , thats not good.....will need to ask a few questions myself

nice build thus far.

Maybe wait and do HPFP and TBE and go straight to stage 2+. Seriously it's mental. So much fun.

I spoke to Tuninwerkes and Reuben said that he spoke to Awesome and they don't know much about the ITG and mainly deal wit the Twintake............. But they advertise the ITG and not the Twintake so, I was baffled at that!! AMD said as I got the Stage 1 map REVO are doing a deal where I get the SPS box for £50 + VAT so they're sendinmg me the application out to get that! Happy with it so far. Think the boost situation will be sorted once I get the SPS box  :happy2:

UPDATE:

Been a while since I been on here. Got my APR wiped and replaced with Revo and, it's bloody rapid! Also got rid of my Fat 5 A8's and finally got a set of Black Huffs! Going to get my mate at work to refurb them AMD have the same finsh as Saint Steve's ones! Don't know whether I'll get a Red strip or keep it Silver!

End of the month I'm getting a new set of tyres as it going to be needed! The Revo has made a ridiculous change to the Car! The throttle feels more responsive, gives me more from my gears and boosts a lot earlier! Here's a pic of the Car with Huffs at work:

UPDATE:

Hi Guys.

been a while since I've updated but, I, have since got my Huffs refurbed. After a lot of hastle, stressing and and complication I decided to lose the silver lip  :sad1:. This was because everyone i contacted to get them done was saying that it was going to be a big job because the previous owner of them had damaged the silver lip so bad it was going to cost £100+ a wheel to get it back to perfect and, thats more than i paid for them so decided to lose it and just gloss the whole wheel at work for £40 a wheel.

The outcome I'm very happy with.. Would've loved the silver lip but hey.. Beggers can't be choosers and, my nesxt set of wheels will look the Doogy's when I get them  :happy2: Here is a picture of them as they are now on the Car.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fww22%2Fphilly_09_1984%2F28d0c050.jpg&hash=544510e482b55932188a1f4138c8bcd2a95ecba1)

I also got and fitted my Edition 30 Non-Res Milltek Cat Back. Love the sound.. Could've done with being a bit deeper and louder but, it'll do  :happy2:! I had been thinking about whether to get the Milltek De-Cat or a custom Longlife De-Cat. I decided on the Longlife De-Cat as they'll do the same thing and I'll be saving myself £125 as the Milltek De-Cat would cost me £324 inc VAT delivered from the TT Roadsport shop (By the way which is a great price) and, from Longlife custom made it is £199 fitted.

Anyway, here is a picture of my Cat Back fitted to my Car  . On Sunday I'm getting my R32 Front set up from ben-R and will fit them next saturday at work. I ordered today my Forge DV and, Eibach Front and Rear Anti Roll Bars. Hopefully into the middle of the month I should be getting my APR HPFP along with my Forge Twintake and, then when the De-Cat is made up I'll get it all fitted and go Stage 2+. Let the games begin

Hey Phil!

Nice looking motor you've got there mate, mean and moody  :happy2:

Shame I did'nt meet you today but thanks for the brakes anyway, I'm sure we'll meet up at some point.

I lost the polished rim on my Omanyts as its too much hassle to keep it, it only goes rotten again anyway and can always be recut at a later date.

If I was single again this is what I'd be doing but with an S3  :driver: but now the missus drains all my money

Keep up the good work mate.

UPDATE:

On Friday I gave Ed @ APS (Diamond Geezer) as I was in major need of a new Cluth as, I was getting major slip in 3rd up.. He sorted me out better than I thought he would and, was actually the only guy that called me back regarinding my enquiries when looking to purchase a new clutch!! He was also the cheapest by far so, big shout out to Ed and, will be getting my money again, lol!! Clutch should be here Monday and, depending on how busy @ work we are should have it fitted tomorrow after work or, by Saturday!!

Also, I got crashed into yesterday! Driving in the Bus lane and, a guy just pulls out, no indication and smacks into me!! He was very apologetic but, then I kinda lost my cool when he tried to give me a fake Registration after his Car is right in front of me and then, he tried to give me a fake number!! So I managed to get that out of him, took a photo of his Plate and went to the Police station which was just round the corner to get advice! They said they will get the footage as there are Cameras around and, gave me a form to fill out! So, hopefully I get this sorted!! When I woke this morning got a real bad pain in my Neck, Right Hand and my Right Knee and Thigh (which I have 4 Screws and a Metal Rod in my Femur from a road accident). Last thing I need right now!!

Sorry to hear about the collision mate. In situations like this it is always best to call the local station and get a panda to come out to you, especially if he is giving false details to you.
Filling in the self reporting forms can take up to 6 months for anything to happen, and most of the time they don't actually go anywhere and get written off.
Sorry to bring a (bigger) downer on the issue.

Update:

Hi guys,

Well, today I fitted my new Sachs uprated performance clutch at work... What a flipping palava!!! Me and my mate Solid set of on fitting it (with Solid doing most of the work). Got the driveshaft, Intake, battery and box out in 30 mins which I thought was bloody quick! Then looked at the old clutch and flywheel and, the old clutch was ******ed! It has warped into a different shape which caused it the not to make 100% contact with the Flywheel, hence the slipping! The old Flywheel was actually not as bad as I thought it would be but, just for piece of mind changed it!

Then, thought it all went Pete Tong!! Started the Car once it had all been boxed up and, Solid said there was a fierce vibration once the car had been engaged and, a very strong smell of clutch! My whole mood changed after that.. I was gutted! So we had to lift it up again, pull it all apart again and checked to see if we had done it wrong! All was bolted on and put together fine so boxed it all up again and, when Solid fired it up as I didn't want to look or listen he did so and, when I opened my eyes and uncovered my ears he was gone! So all must have gone well as he was gone for 20 mins.. Then I heard the loud decat roaring through the u derground Car park and saw my baby driving fine! Solid had a huge smile on his face and shouted "I love it"! Then there was slot of smoke coming from the Bonnet so, jumped out and looked under and it was the coolant temp sensor. The clip had broken and therefore the sensor had come free from the housing and all the coolant had gone! So got a new o-ring, clip and 2 bottles of coolant and all was good again!

Wow. A bit of a rollercoaster ride but great to hear it turned out fine in the end.

Did you have an uprated flywheel or was it OEM DMF?

Even if he wasnt insured on the car, as long as the car is insured then they have to deal with it as and RTA insurer or Article 75 insurer. MIB no longer pays out to uninsured drivers where there is a policy in place on the car. Only if it is totally un insured. The best thing to do is check askmid.com to see if his registration is insured and go after that company. If you have pics, police report or a witness this should speed thing right up.

@ Ruffrydaz: Also forgot to mention, the car got sorted out  :pomppomp:! The guys insurance company did'nt get hold of him so just agreed to get the Car done which was a touch!

@ Rich: The Garage is spanking... You could eat grub off the floor .. It's 30 ramp workshop! Biggest Audi dealership in the world!

@ Stealth! Rollercoaster wasn't the word.. Thought I was gonna have a heart attack when we took it all apart again! Still getting used to the new clutch. It has a sharp, snappy spring to it. I used an OEM LUK DMF too! Decided to stay with the DMF as I use the car everyday and, to be honest don't like the SMF!

Just out of interest how much did the damage cost
Mines about £2800 which is probably why they wont pay out so quick?

Just don't look at the recewipts and add up what you've spent so far.....it's frightening!!

Been there done that...good fun doing it at the time but the missus didn't think so!!

I nearly bought an E46 M3 all done (AP brakes, Clubsports, DMS map intake and Schitzer zorst) a proper bit of kit....lovely chassis especially on Intermediates round Combe....car was really cheap too....market has dropped away because of the rreally bad down in the South West!!

Been a while since I've updated! Anyways, I'm going to VW Racing tomorrow together APR flashed to my Car! A main reason for this is I'm getting my Hybrid fitted soon and Revo have said to me that they're software won't support the Hybrid so, APR it is! Will let you know what my views are compared to the current Revo software on my car at the moment!  :happy2:

Strange that Revo are saying that.  I ran Revo stage 3 (2+ as it would be on your car) with no problems and now I'm on the race map with the hybrid.  Perfect fueling, boost control etc.

Would be good to compare the two cars once you have the Apr on  :happy2:

Yep! Went to VWRacing to meet Greg (wicked guy  :happy2:) and, get the new APR V3.1 flashed to my Car. Got there about 3:30pm, met Greg and had a tour of the building and workshop! We had to wait a while before we mapped the Car as APR America were writing the file for my Car so, it's the 1st Eddy with this file! After it had been written, Greg took it out, came back and took me out in it...  :driver: love it! Feels so much smoother than the Revo did! The power delivery isn't as violent but still feels quicker. The spool is mental! Pulls rapidly through all the gears! Definitely feels quicker than the Revo Stage 2+ map! Cant wait to get the Hybrid and new APR HPFP on and get the map tweaked! Car should be mental  :jumping:
