Righto fellas…………
I’ve just got my hands on some kw v1’s coilovers & would like to fit them asap. My dads is a mechanic so we have access to a hydraulic lift which is cool but I’m after a good guide to fitting as he’d never heard of coliovers until last night!
I've trawled the net a bit & the guides tend to stop at actually fitting & don't cover setting up
Anyone got any pointers for setting up dampening & alignment?
cheers
Martin :happy2:

the damping is fixed on the V1's so your ok there, the ride height is a bit of a suck it and see affair. Its just like fitting new std suspension struts then set the ride height on each unit to a starting datum, when I've done it I've set them all as low as they will go and raised them gradually so they are all equal and at the height you want. The rears are a seperate spring and damper affair and are really simple and self explantory when you come to fit them.
Regards alignment I would get a full 4 wheel alignment check done after fit, but be aware the suspension will settle over the first week or so and may need adjusting again so may be worth waiting a few days before getting the check done

Cool thanks for the advice :notworthy:
The garage my dad works at does not have alignment facilities so I'll get that looked at a week or so down the line. I see there are a few specialist tools required but I'm guessing the strut spreader tool is universal or is it vw specific....?

strut spreader is pretty universal, a pry-bar will do the job :happy2:
where are you based?

I'm in Northants near Bedfordshire border ;-)

HI guys,
Pardon my complete ignorance here, I had some Bilstein coilovers fitted last week, and want the low stance on them, they are currently both set to the bottom setting, does this mean that they will not go any lower as there is still a lot of air between the wheel and the arch that I would like to get rid of?
