Title: A surprise find
Post by: stealthwolf on August 22, 2010, 08:08:16 pm
This was one of those days when you wished you'd brought along your camera.

After some sleepless night, I was reluctant to go grocery shopping today. Realising there was no decent food in the house (tinned beans, carrots and cereal aren't things I'd like to combine into a meal!), I went out. Thank god I did.

Drove to the supermarked and parked in my usual spot. I looked up and saw something. At the cellular level, synapses were firing off at incredible rates and my heart skipped a few beats as I saw this:

Looks like a Pontiac Trans-Am, the kind that was in Smokey and the Bandit right? Wrong. Even on a subconscious level I'd recognised blacked out tail light. No Trans-Ams were ever produced with this blacked-out taillight. In fact, there was only ever one vehicle that had such a rear end:

Took a few pics:

I wished I'd taken more pics put the crap visibility on the iphone screen and the camera meant the shots weren't brilliant. Plus I was blocking traffic as I took pictures and where I live, they're not bothered about running you over. Anyway, I went inside, realised I hadn't taken any interior shots and decided to head back. Alas, the car was gone.

I've seen two proper Pontiac Trans-Ams in the UK but never seen one converted to KITT in real life. This one does need some corrective work to bring the paintwork up though.

Bandit car was a bit of an earlier version, but that's an ACE find!!! I'd have licked it.

Nope. It was quite obviously a fan-car rather than the original. I didn't get a pic of the interior but it was the standard version rather than the modified version.

Dreamed as a lad of driving/owning one of those bads boys!!
+1. There's a reason I bought a black car with a red stripe on the front!

Where was it Stealth?
Parked up in Morrisons by the Blues ground. Never in a million years did I think I would see it there.

The Bandit car in S&B 1 was the 77 model that you posted a pic up of. In the third film, it's an 83 model. KITT was an 82-85 series model.

Quite a few Knight Rider fans have managed to get ahold of Trans-Ams and convert them. It's easier in the US since the parts are more readily available.

super pursuit mode FTMFW!!
I absolutely hated super-pursuit mode. I reckon it's what gave rise to the transformer version in the 2008 tv series.

Ahh... yes, I remember now.

I'd erased S&B III out of my mind, on the grounds of it being so crap and not having Burt Reynolds in.
