Title: Tyre Fitting on New Alloys
Post by: andrewparker on August 23, 2010, 04:46:47 pm
Hi guys, I recently purchased a lovely set of 18" Detroit alloys from Nathan. I had planned to source some tyres online, but am struggling to find someone who will fit the new wheels and tyres I supply. Perhaps I'm being naive but I really didn't realise it would be so much of an issue, but have basically had answers from a straightforward "no, we don't do that", to people reacting like I was trying to take their livelihood away, and that they'd be taking a massive risk doing it.

Anyone got any ideas, or know someone in the North-West that will do it for me?

TIA

Try RI Tyres in Blackburn, they usually beat internet prices on tyres, but if you have the tyres, they will fit them for you

It's the new wheels situation that appears to be the problem...

You mean they are scared of damaging them  :scared: ?   Hmmm   I've not had this issue when turning up with my own tyres for fitting.

You could try self employed tyre fitters as they do them day in and day out, check their level of insurance first. or refurb places as same again they will experienced staff used to dealing with freshly done rims.

I am not sure if its available over here yet but there are machine available where the tyre is removed from the inside of the rim thus reducing the chance of any damage happening to the face of the alloy massively

And a 30"

I got mine put on with the alloy upside down, you really just need to go to a reputable place and ask for the best lad to the job and voice you worries. These guys do it all day long so with care it should not be to much of a problem.  :happy2:

putting the tyres on is the easy bit and all depending on the rim make  and design can be put on and taken of upside down..Its when you are taking the tyre of is where you have to be very careful and take your time doing it
