Hi guys
Just opened a topic to discuss lowering springs (again  )
I'm really debating lowering springs for the Ed 30. (not ready for the coilovers yet)
It's up in the air between the 'VWR/AP 20mm springs', 'Eibach Sportlines' and 'H&R springs'.
Does anyone have anything good/bad to say about it?
The issues I have are as follows:
I don't want it too low and looking silly and making it impractical
I don't really want to be changing dampers etc.
And will it mess up the driveshafts, CV joints etc? In the old car (clio ) I was replacing all suspension componants/bushes every other month. ( Although it was lowered 120mm)
Any help/criticisms/advice & pictures are most welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Nick

I've got the VWR 20 mm ones on my ED30, perfect drop for my needs and the ride comfort is unchanged over stock :happy2:

Thanks Beddie. I've literally just been drooling over the thread where you have posted pictures of your car. :notworthy:
Are you using stock dampers?

Cheers mate :happy2:
Yeah using stock dampers and no issues whatsoever, currently on 36K and will just keep an eye on things as the miles rack up, i've always planned to just renew with oem dampers again should any fail as the ride is exactly how i want it now :happy2:
If going down the VWR spring route i'd go via DPM performance with the AP springs, exactly the same but cheaper...

I used an Eibach Pro-Kit (springs) on my prev Megane. The ride was superb, but funnily enough, they didnt seem to lower the same amount all round.

interesting question keano, have had the vwr 20mm springs in the back of my head, dont want to take over your thread but wanted to add the question of xenon auto adjustment with the drop? Is this an issue if the front and rear drop is consistent?
-
I have the eiback pro sport (35mil drop?)
Stance looks amazing!!! But the ride? Its sort of bugging me, its a bit crashy and sometimes unbearable
Debating whether to get Coilys but maybe selling the car soon
Deffo get coilys if you ever plan on getting Eibach pro sport springs in the long term...

My xenon auto levelling and beam pattern etc work exactly as they did on the oem springs :happy2:

:surprised: Well I thought the Eibach's were almost the same as H&R's. Guess not then.
I love my H&R's and I love the ride too :star:

Nick,
Grabbed a couple of pics of mine yesterday now everythings fully settled in, i'm also running 10mm spacers all round as imo the pescaras can look a little lost in the arches when you go lower

That looks pretty much perfect Beddie, a fairly uniform gap all-round the wheel, and I guess you dont have issues with bumps etc. Have you been able to get a jack underneath? And did you notice any difference in xenon beam pattern?
-
.
Don't forget Anti Roll Bars, folks!
They make a big difference to handling and ride.
[Slippery slope!]

Built to a price I am afraid.
And built to a market. ARBs, bushes etc are hardly what the majority of GTI customers are after.

....Built to a market is absolutely true, Andrew. It's easy for us lot of performance enthusiasts who mainly mix with other enthusiasts to think that every GTI owner is a similar enthusiast. Waving at others driving GTI's shows how many are uninterested and are just buying an upper version Golf. But that's what's great about the GTI: It's a great allrounder with great chassis and very modifiable.

Beddie you awesome chap!

Yeah both the oem widow maker jack and my trolley jack fit underneath no problem, clearance over bumps/speedbumps is fine and the xenons have been completely unaffected :happy2:

I do too!
another vote for the H&R

P.S. - Don't worry about asking questions - You can't be expected to know everything (I don't!) :happy2:

Aaaah.... now fully educated. seems worthwhile to me :jumpmove:
