Something along those lines   Although I had a scare this week when my contract renewal was stalled and I worked for a week without pay  which is why I've been a bit quiet on here as I've been too busy applying for jobs :surprised:  I think its a practice run for later this year so I am in two minds now about going all out... I was intending on the following:

Race Spec Engine Mounts from VWR
Polybushes all round
Front mounts to give neg camber
CF Bonnet
Lightweight alloys shod with road-legal slicks
Back seats out - thats happenning because its free
Fuel tank only 1/4 full unlike last time when I forgot and filled the bloody tank to the brim
Boost on 8 or 9 instead of 5 like last time.. with Stage 2+
More than one measly run down the strip

I was hoping to get very close to under 13s if not achieving it with all that...  I think the polybushes and lightweight alloys may have to be dropped though out of financial precaution.

Illyun, I seriously thought you'd have bettered my time with the Quaife in tow last time out.

I think 13 seconds for you isn't out of the question with a good launch :happy2:

113mph terminal definitely shows potential though 8)

Post by: Sunglasses Ron on February 24, 2009, 04:50:27 pm
Think it would of helped if he didn't have the Sirious Star's oil reserve in his fuel tank and was running more than 1 psi boost thanks to having his Revo setting on 5..
I'm expecting good times from this car with the right launch etc.. Can I have a go, please, can I...???

Definitely come along mate.. Would be a good heads up against mine??

I think even if its busy you could get 6 runs morning and 6 runs in the afternoon.. Thats if you were doing a run and then rejoining the que right away..

We can meet others along on the way as we did last time  :happy2: Just let me know if anyone is interested and we can start a new thread. Krispy Kremes at Traff can be the trusty meeting place as usual and we can pick others up on the M6  :happy2:

T88OMM, thank you!

Before I add myself to the thread link...I should let you know I'll be travelling from Luton on the M1, so the M6 is probably a stretch to far to meet up.

Are there any other points to link up?

Pauline is about somewhere, I don't think he finds the time to come online much because of our uni work, whereas I'm a lazy f*cker and never do the work - hence why I spend so much time on here! Think he's just got some professional photos of his car done, so he will post them up soon!  8) 8) 8)

Court case is on tuesday Steve. Looks like 12 months of public transport for me though..   Oh and apparantly there  is a good chance the national press are going to be there as the Police have tipped them off..   You'd think there would be more interesting things going on in the world than a video of me putting my foot down on a empty DC in a straight line for 10-15 secs..  :surprised:

T88OMM, thank you!

Before I add myself to the thread link...I should let you know I'll be travelling from Luton on the M1, so the M6 is probably a stretch to far to meet up.

Are there any other points to link up?

Hi mate,

Did you get a chance to work out where I might join the procession, and what time?

Cheers  :driver:

Looks like I maybe missing this as my mate is no longer going and he was my lift .. Unless anyone who is travelling southbound on the A1 fancies a hitchhiker?

On a positive note though, I went to the Pod today (The Fast Show) and managed to bang in a 13.1 @ 109mph, so a new PB for me..

Right lane??

Really sorry to hear that they have taken the decision to enforce the ban, really is a case of wasting time, I would suggest that if they put something in the press you should retaliate by working out exactly how much money was spent on your case, then cross referencing it to other far more serious cases.. Sounds like someone seriously had a bee in their bonnet about this one!

But can't say i'm overbothered about what people think (even if it was a idiotic offence on my behalf). Just concentrating on them keeping it at 12 months and hope that the pressence of the press doesn't influence the judge to go all out and let rip on me..

Thanks to the media presence the judge felt inclined to make a example of me and issue me 15 months ban and £865 fine too . So looks like I shall be missing a few shows/meets etc, but I only have myself to blame and could of been worse as I norrowly missed a 2 year ban by all accounts..
There was about 6 reporters there BBC/Calender/Local papers etc so epect to see me on TV etc soon..  :ashamed: Even though they have the details all wrong and say I was charged for doing 130mph when in fact it was 115mph, CNUTS  :fighting:)

Apparently they used the markings of the road to calculate the speed (if you know the distance between say two lampposts and the time taken to pass between them, you can get a rough idea of the speed).

What I wanna know about is the Audi.

Harsh charges - they've come down on you harder than they have for other people doing faster speeds.

Sorry to hear that Ben. What a disgrace that they've made so much of a deal about this

Just reading the BBC article, it says that they got the video from the file sharing website - so does that mean that the police weren't actually active on the forum, but just your video host? (i cant remember if it was put on youtube, or another similar site)

Also, what happened to the Audi??

And I wonder which b@stard 'tipped them off' about your video.......

From their site....

"The only thing you need to go drag racing at the famous Santa Pod Raceway is a valid UK driving licence, £10 for admission and a £25 signing-on fee. You'll be entitled to unlimited runs or as many as your nerves will allow! After each run you'll receive a personal performance print-out showing your reaction times to the start lights, 60ft, 1/4 mile, 1/8 mile times and terminal speed."

I tend to take my paper one anyway, but most take their plastic one :happy2:

Alert!     Warning     Alert!     Warning! Yikes! Stealth going up the strip. I wonder whether the track is wide enough for his driving skills

Oi! I'm going in a straight line, don't even have to turn the wheel! Just need to make sure I don't leave the handbrake on! :driver:

not really. gates open at 8am. drag strip opens at 10am. we'll get there for 9am or just after depending on how busy it is on way in.

for those who want to go on the strip, you'll need to start queuing up and sign on etc.

you won't know until a couple of hours in how many cars have turned up.

you can always wait till the end of the day i suppose.

the problem is having to wait in the queue, so u can't see any action.  this could take an hour!!!

A pleasant day, but still feeling a cool. Maximum temperature 10 °C"

Won't be able to make it 5th April coz of work, and weekend after will be easter, when it'll probably be packed. Will have to consult work rota before I can say when I'll go back.

i managed to get 4 runs in for my £25!  :angry015:

it would have been alright if it weren't for the 2 breakdowns that cost a good couple of hours of drag time.

I managed to get around 6 runs...one with a black porsche 977 Turbo...  :driver:

Watch this space...will post photos.

The guy with the Porsche was my younger brother!!! He's also got a pearlescent pink one - for pulling the rich Arab babes.

The reason he was starting off slow was becoz the race marshalls wouldn't let him on the track:

1) because it wasn't a VW - with a bit of gentle persuasion we reminded them that Porsche owns over 30% of VW.

2) He was actually starting the race in second gear... even though he has launch control and the chrono pack.

3) He had restricted his car to a top spead of 110mph...so the marshalls would allow him to race. The car would have easily done over 120 in the quarter mile, but he didn't have a helmet.

I reckon if he let the car loose he would have got 11 secs easily!!!

P.S.  His last run was 0.2 over 12 secs - from second gear.  And that's without him even trying :driver:

P.P.S  I want one...  :embarrassed:

Just a standard GTi with a stage 1 remap, eibach sportline springs, piper cross induction kit.

Mind you I did have a full tank of petrol - which with hindsight would have slowed me down.

Plus, I couldn't get the hand of not getting my wheels to spin in the beginning from 1st into 2nd gear.  Got to learn to hold back from flooring the pedal.

Someone looked at my induction kit and suggested that I change it for a Carbino one cos he thought the pipe might be suffocating my engine...

Only kidding mate.. To knock a second of your 1/4 mile you would be needing about another 100bhp give or take 10bhp.. With a full tank you may have cost yourself about 0.2 secs (2 1/10ths) tops.. Still a good time mate for a stage 1 (similar to what Joe was getting last month..

Robin,

....They are VWR's own big brake kit - Just over £2,800 including vat and fitting. I find them a bit snatchy compared with my AP Racing's but they do work extremely well!! I've got a bit more used to the feel but got a bit of a shock first time I applied them.

Its a VW Racing branded Project Mu product, they are fantasic! Love them to bits, should have them on my car soon.. Well as soon as I can afford them anyways lol..

Really didn't notice the grabby feeling that you describe Robin.. Possibly the pads were not bedded correctly when you drove the car? I think I was in it a little while after you..

....Yes, I have the honour of being the very first non-VWR staff to drive her and the last time I drove her was still before you did. I know after my feedback that Mark was going to do more to sort out the brakes. Time for me to re-acquaint myself with her methinks. I really love that car - So tactile!

OK, couple more questions...

1) How comes you guys always get to test stuff?  I want to join the club - I'm sure I can provide an impartial and detailed review.

2) Were those discs ceramic?  And how much would it cost to replace pads, and discs each time round... I'm hoping its not £2800 each time.

3) What other cost effective brake upgrades are there that you folks can recommend.

Thanks,

Mo

....To answer your questions:

1) In the case of VWR's demo car, aka The Temptress, those of us who have driven her have done so because she's a demo car for VWR's offered products and she's for their own testing rather than ours. Otherwise on testing generally for various manufacturers, you have to be invited by the manufacturer.

2) Not ceramic. 4-pot & 4-pad (quite unusual). £129.23 a set of pads inc vat but not fitting.

3) Depends what you mean by "cost-effective". AP Racing have a very long established excellent reputation. Tarox excellent too. Others I personally have little knowledge of. Some guys use components from other cars such as R32 and Cupra. I prefer to have the peace of mind of a manufacturer's aftersales support with a fully tested kit and don't mind it costing more.

HTH (Hope This Helps)  :happy2:

RR....

following your words of wisdom about air filters, i had mine changed today.  :happy2:

but i couldn't believe what i saw tho when i popped my bonnet up to check.

the damn engine cover was loose, the connection to the ram air box thing at the front of the car not attached.

maybe that's why i got crap times yesterday!!!

still the local guys i use sorted it all out. also re did the 2 bolts holding the driveshaft shield as that was loose too  :surprised:  got knows how. they were querying maybe it was the peeps who fitted my Forge DV.

My car just came back from Richter Sports - with a nice and new Kufatec Bluetooth Kit installed.

Loving it!   :nerd: Apart from the trouch screen telephone gubbins...I also get an extra set of digital read outs on my MFD -  oil and water temp, revs, speed, turbo boost, litres of petrol left in tank.

Only issue is that my turbo boost read out shows nothing at the moment.  Looks like I will have to phone Richter just in case I'm doing something silly.

Apart from that the phone kit works a treat!!!  :driver:

im not too sure mate. its never worked. i thought it might be because i didnt have a charged petrol, mines diesel.

Ive also been finding that once in a while it will just disconnect from my car. "no compatable bluetooth phone connected" then a few seconds later it says "phone connected"

then sometimes thru a phonecall, it goes all crackly.

I will be speaking to kufatec about all these issues. Hopefully there will be an update available. If not, they can have it back, for £350 or so, it better bloody work and it better work good! ;)

The car had seats inserts of a different colour to the outside leather bits. The arms rest was also colour coded along with the gear cover.

Does anyone know where I can get this done?  Gotta put my mind at peace...  :jumping:

Aparently the GTi fordm't show turbo boost.  Check out the link below and read the notes at the bottom. I think its number 2.

off thread but a few chaps have been having issues with their sciroccos and this kit, this may be of interest  :happy2:

It should give you a boost readout from the Turbo system whether Diesel or Petrol. Does anyone have a boost readout working with the Fiscon kit?

Yes it does give readouts after a day of being stuck at 0. I realized that the down arrow button on the right side of the wheel steps through four different values for boost, and it is now showing a value. Also the up arrow toggles between remaining fuel in liters and battery output voltage, not sure how useful it is to know that the battery outputs 14.7 volts but fun all the same!
No extra connection is needed. The bluetooth unit is connected to the CAN bus and presumably just pulls the information from the engine management, this extra information display is just a nice extra from the phone kit.

Hi Wigit,

I have driven approx. 40 miles... still no readout on the turbo boost.   How long do you rekon I have to wait?

Cheers
