When I was a practising design consultant a friend and client commissioned me to custom design the interior, including dashboard, of a Porsche which he had bought the shell of. The project was built near Northampton and we used to drive from London every week in a Ferrari (more than one to choose from) - Those were the days. My research led me to Tamiya's scale models and I found two at 1/12th scale. Tamiya build absolutely accurately according to car manufacturer's drawings and so even the Porsche's floorpan moulding was accurate! The finished car (not my model) was privately tested at Goodwood by Derek Bell - My friend was/is a close friend of Earl March. I wish I still had the photos.

Anyroad up, the point is that Tamiya's scale models, if you didn't already know, are stunning. I've still got a Lola T70 and another Porsche, both boxed and ready to construct one rainy day... Perhaps.

Soundtrack is by David Guetta feat Kelly Rowland

Cool video btw. Amazing how realistic some of these model/RC cars look.

Aha! Kelly Rowland  - I thought I could detect some Destiny's Child style but knew it wasn't Beyonce. Thx :drinking:

My Lola T70 is RC but you can build them as a static showpiece model. 1/10th scale gives a lot of detail. Modding it to look like mine could take a long time!

I now remember that my Tamiya models cost around £30 when I bought them so many years ago and although a legit business expense I thought they cost a lot (but were worth it).

I started off with the touring cars, battery then Nitro power.

The sound of the engine screaming to 50,000 rpm and the nitro smell just got me addicted.

I race 1/8th scale off buggy's now. Flying over to race at Slough this weekend. It is an International event with loads off top drivers.

Looks like I could be buying this Tamiya for racing indoors this winter, cheap to run and look after.

Wow! I didn't expect so much enthusiasm about this Tamiya model when I started this thread. Nor that it would bring so many racers out of the woodwork.

Great!  :drinking:

Yeah, the track at Slough is reguarded as one of the best in the UK at the moment.

Racing is all this weekend starting Sat with the finals on Monday.

Boys with toys and there are a few females who are fairly handy at the controls also.

You can buy unpainted shells for them too. I've had one for a while and masked it up and painted it BMP from the inside. They've got light controllers and all sorts.

It's good for a laugh with my 2 pugs. Makes them go mental.
