Title: Tyre Speed Rating 91y or 94w???
Post by: oly2k2 on August 25, 2010, 11:22:12 pm
Hi All, im looking to buy a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres, size 225/43 R17, the problem i have is that im unsure of which speed rating to go for 91y or 94w, could anyone please tell me, i have 94w tyres on my car already, but have seen a set of 91y's going pretty cheap on fleabay.
Also on the michelin website the pilot sport 3 94w are listed as XL does anyone know what this means??

Thanks

Andy

the tyre size you mean is 25/45/17 :signLOL:  you will be fine with y rated tyres and the xl stands for extra load

Y indicates the speed rating of the tyre and 92 being the load. I stand to be corrected but I think the GTI is meant to have 92Ys.

the gti are 92y but it will be ok on 94w as you can go higher with the speed ratings but not lower

The XL (extra load) is also what you really need for the car. :happy2:

Thanks for the info guys, ive been having a bit of trouble with road noise which i think is down to the crappy tyres i have fitted at the moment,

Does anyone think that the 94w,s might increase the road noise or do you think it makes no diffrence?

thanks again
