Now chaps.. Over the last few months I can honestly say that I have never heard my engine fan come on once  It was only after a fairly spirited drive the other day with a few mates (no videos, sorry :signLOL:) when we was all chatting afterwards near our cars and my mate's S3's fan was blowing and mine wasn't. It then got me thinking that I couldn't honestly remember the last time I heard it
Now I have had no warning lights come on and it's been on VAGCOM a few times recently (not in the last month though) and again no warning codes flashed up, but not sure if it would anyway. Are the fans on the GTI ridiculously quiet, or should I get mine inspected pronto (especially with the mods and standard cooler :scared:).
What's your thoughts?

easy test start the car and leave it running and after a few min the fan should come on,just open the bonnet to see if it comes on

Pretty sure it doesn't Matt, but i'll check in a min. Will it still do it from cold though?

There's two fans - a big one and a small one.
It's not unknown for the small fan to fail, leaving the car no choice but to activate the bigger fan.

Open the bonnet, you should be able to see them spin...try putting the ac on too (doesnt that make a difference)?

Will try this in a min. If they aren't working, what sort of affect will this have on the car (especially a modded one)? :scared: Or is it just mainly for when the car is stationary?

If the fan wasn't working I would have thought you'd be seeing higher engine temps on the gauge. fwiw on our car the fans are noisy as f*ck from the outside

Been running ten mins with no sign of the fan.. :sad1: Off to VW I think..

Off of the top of my head I can't remember where it is but pretty sure you can 'run' the fan with VCDS in 'output tests', much like you can cycle your electric windows or wipers etc.

Is the car over heating at all tho? Without the fan it would start to climb above 90 on the display in the car.
Its not overly warm out today and with the bonnet up the car might be able to lose enough heat without the fan kicking in, or at least take a bit longer to happen.
Leave it running with the bonnet down

Smaller fan should be running if you have the AC on in this weather.

Tried it with the aircon on earlier and both were spinning.. :pomppomp: But I still haven't seen/heard them going without the AC on.. Will keep an eye on them for a bit, but the temp gauge still stays at 90oC, so should be ok..
