Title: CW K1 - mini mod.
Post by: S800BRN on August 26, 2010, 12:33:54 pm
Sorry for the amount of pics!
The rim stickers came off straightway only because I didn't think they'd last. Had I heated them they would prob last fine.

Looks good, always been a fan of the R32 wheels, have you done anything special with fitting them like spacers, as they look to stick out alot more than Monza II's.  Also be interested to know if you have any suspension mods or is that with original ride height.

Looks very nice  :happy2:

I will second that Gene I like the flaps on mine, and do a good job of keeping the spray down.  And bearing in mind the country we live in and the amount it rains the motorways would be alot better if everyone had them to reduce the spray. (goes ducking for cover after possibly opening a can of worms)

No spacers that I'm aware of. I noticed when I fitted some CH reps to my last golf the sat out a good bit more than the standard wheels.
The suspension is stock. After some lowering springs tho.

Got my pro races and sportlines on today. So obligatory pic. Tyres need dressed and car's dirty so will get more pics in time.
They'll take a little gettin used to - they look tiny compared to my last wheels.

Looks good mate  :happy2:

The 'motorsport' style wheels always look smaller IMO and yours being dark adds to that effect.

How are you finding the ride on the sportlines? I noticed a small difference but not much.

Yeah going form 19" silver Omanyts to 18" antharacite is quite a difference. I like them though.
The ride's a touch firmer but not too much.

I would also love to see the red rim edged S versions. What ride height is the car ?

I liked the idea of 19" 1.3s but they were too expensive.
The car's just lowered on Eibach Sportlines. :happy2:

The mudflaps were on the car when I got it. Contemplating taking them off. The scrape the drive now anyway!!

I think 19's will look a little too big personally. I was one of the few who specced an owned an E90 M3 with anthracite 18's. The option was another £1500 and I don't like the 19's on the M3 anyway :happy2: lowered with 10mm spacers it looked perfect to me

When I find a low miles, mint car I will probably choose BBS CH in black for a black car, or TD S possibly. But if it's red or White then it's TD's all the way they are lighter than the BBS which is very nice too. Plus about half the price of BBS !

The black on black looks very stealth though !

Don't suppose there are any pictures of TD S (red edge) on a black car anywhere ?

I'd leave the mudflaps - reduces the amount of crap on the lower part of the car.

Not sure about the rims but they're definitely in the right colour!

The real carbon weave looks excellent - More even than OSIR's.

Are your fog panels (honeycombe, not the foglight surrounds) painted gloss?

....But will the fixing be strong enough to hold when an emergency crew tugs you out of the kitty litter? They don't hang about and will do whatever it takes even if it further damages your car.

....Most of my carbon is OSIR. All from TTshop Bedford who are the official European distributers/resellers. Theoretically it's cheaper getting it from across the pond in the good old U S of A... BUT, you'll get hit for UK vat etc etc... Plus, if you have a problem it's much more difficult to get it put right - I once had to reject an OSIR carbon foglight panel because the weave was all over the place, but TTshop were excellent and it was replaced without question.

Some folks have reported fit problems but that has never been my experience. The fit of body panels on the Mk5 Golf ex factory ain't exactly purrfect anyway.

All real carbon is relatively expensive.

I'm posting a feeler later today for carbon fenders (I call them wings) as I can organise a group buy.

Never been a fan of carbon much, but love the bit in the fog light cover.
Did you get it done professionally or do it yourself? Or did you buy it from an online shop?

I bought the whole fog cover, Al. I took a punt on them from eBay. I wasn't expecting much tbh but when they arrived I couldn't believe the quality. The fitment's as good as OEM too. Mirror housing are from the same place.

Ok so got my H&R springs fitted last week. Impressed with the ride quality. Only marginally harsher than standard.
Whilst it was in for springs she got serviced and brake fluid changes too.
Also changed the horrible factory head unit.
Anyhoo - standard crappy iPhone pics:

but freezing, icy conditions are not the conducive for testing the difference. :sad1: Roll on some drier weather.
Guess I'll chuck up a couple of pics for the sake of it..

Spotted yesterday in Cullen when I went to visit my uncle. Got a couple of warm up photos too before I had a go doing panoramics, viaduct and surf photos :)

Looks clean - being honest I prefer the original wheels you had going by the photos.

Where are you based? We often have meets over on SCN with similar cars.

Cheers. The car's far from clean at the minute tho!  :xmassmiley: I still have the white Orions but they're not in great nick and the tyres are pretty pants on them.
My in-laws stay in Cullen, it's sunny Buckie I'm based. Where about you at? I'd be up for a meet.

Love the k1 kit, looks fantastic and how the Leon should look  :happy2:

Have a MY11 CW FR derv and rather pleased with it, albeit I have to admit I did prefer my Golf GT Sport but will scratch that itch with an ED30 at some point this year.

Great looking car anyows with some nice mods

Another cheapo mod today. Never did like how yellow the sidelights were next to the xenons.
Output of these are whiter, cleaner looking.

Front was a carbon dipped one and the rear was sprayed black by a mate at a body shop. :happy2:
