Title: Plastic bumper trims
Post by: Chris on August 26, 2010, 11:00:45 pm
Can anuone recommend a good plastic detailer/cleaner to use on black plastic bumpers etc. I currently use autoglym plastic and rubber stuff but once the rain gets on it it goes streaky

The vinyl and rubber care IMO is pants.

To clean properly you need a degreaser or all-purpose cleaner. I use megs apc. At a push, tesco's daisy cleaner or whatever it's called is good when diluted down. Apply with brush. At the mo, AG bumper care is okay but very runny hence apply onto cloth and thence to the car.

Autoglym Bumper care. As Stealth says, apply sparingly, then buff it with a cloth. Won't go streaky, reapply when it no longer beads water droplets :happy2:

If you leave a lot on, it streaks. Use little, & buff it. You sure it's Bumper Care, and not Vinyl & Rubber Care? Vinyl care will streak when wet.

Yup. I always found it streaked until I started applying sparingly, with a sponge. Then buff clean with a soft cloth, trying to remove any visible residue.

I currently use Autosmart Trim Wizard. You may be able to get it off ebay but i would look for your local rep and get 5ltrs of him which is about £12

Dodo juice do a special trim sealant. Gtechniq also have one. Both are pricey (above £20) but if you want a trim/bumper product that lasts months if not years, I would definitely recommend both these products. Both also have reviews on detailing world.

Best of luck with whatever product you choose.

These are both "crystal" products and supposedly bond to the surface.

I bought the DJ one but never got round to applying it.

I've been using the AutoGlym tyre stuff on my plastics and that does a really nice job IMO.
Use it on the mudflaps, sideskirts, bottom of rear bumper and tyres :)
