Hi All,
Well Mr ebay has dropped another item off to me today and I`ve already got problems with it
I`ve purchased a MEDIA-IN unit that takes place of my 6 Disc CD Charger under the arm rest.
Now I didn`t buy it with the a loom as it was cheap enough and I thought that on the off chance good old VW wouldn`t change the plug to connect these units .... WRONG....
So I`m looking for someone with a WORKING ETKA to try and find me some numbers of the plugs for the following pictures, so I can make a lead up to allow me to plug the cars loom into the new shaped connector...
Thanks in Advance for any help ...
This shows the units side by side... Notice the different socket type.... (Same number of pins though!)

I've bought exactly the same thing as you and have exactly the same problem
I think you need this wiring harness
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p1113_c26_MEDIA-IN-MDI-Interface---Harness---VW-Golf-5.html
and change your CAN-Bus gateway otherwise you'll get a flat battery!

You can no doubt make up the loom yourself, but obviously you'll need the pin assignments (I may be able to help) and the loom for the CD changer wouldn't be any good IMHO unless you moved things around on the Headunit end.
I'll have a look later mate.

Trust you Stu to come to my help again :signLOL:
Cheers Dewd...

From what I can make out you need the following -
Quadlock Pin 9 > CAN Hi Orange/Violet to Pin 8 on the MDI
Quadlock Pin 10 > CAN Lo Orange/Brown to Pin 2 on the MDI
Quadlock Pin 12 > Ground Brown to Pin 1 on the MDI
Quadlock Pin 15 >Live Red/Yellow to Pin 7 on the MDI Can be used in lieu of Pin 4 on the Blue Connector
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 1 (Aux In Left) > Green to Pin 10 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 2 (Aux In GND) > Grey to Pin 4 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 4 (CD Changer 12v Terminal 30) > Red/White to Pin 7 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 7 (Aux In Right) > Yellow to Pin 9 on the MDI
If you have Aux in already then you may find the three (1,2 &7) above are populated.

The Blue Plug is 3B7 035 447 B.
The Black Plug for the MDI is 8E0 972 112.
I think the repair wires for both of these are 000 979 009 E
-
Thanks again Stu,
I`ll order the parts and make a loom up and see if I can get it to work right :drinking:
If I do ... I`ll let others know.
-
Good luck mate. :happy2:

By the time you have finished it would be far easier maybe not cheaper but easier to buy the loom, I got mine from ebay for about £25

000 979 987 is 10m of the CAN cable 0.35mm CSA
000 979 980 is 10m of Yellow repair wire 0.35mm CSA
000 979 950 is the webbing for making the loom

May I ask for the link? Also is there an alternative solution to upgrading the CAN gateway to resolve the battery drain issue as it seems to me a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, and very expensive as well! I know with aftermarket headunits it is just usually a case of swapping pin positions around. Any help would be greatfully appreciated!

Update -
Made a loom up today and all working great :) :P
total cost of £22.04 from the stealers though for the bits :ashamed:
I managed to use the existing CD changer cable and just made some changes at the head unit side and then made a old plug / socket to new type plug / socket with some repair wires and the new plug / sockets :)
I`ve got a VERY ruff picture taken when I had it half in half out which I`ll post if people want to see it :rolleye:

Were the connections I posted above correct Craig??
-
All the rest was correct but after a little checking on other website`s I found a slight difference noted below...
You Had
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 1 (Aux In Left) > Green to Pin 10 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 2 (Aux In GND) > Grey to Pin 4 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 4 (CD Changer 12v Terminal 30) > Red/White to Pin 7 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 7 (Aux In Right) > Yellow to Pin 9 on the MDI
I`ve got
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 1 (Aux In Left) > Green to Pin 9 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 2 (Aux In GND) > Grey to Pin 10 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 4 (CD Changer 12v Terminal 30) > Red/White to Pin 7 on the MDI
Quadlock Blue Connector Pin 7 (Aux In Right) > Yellow to Pin 4 on the MDI

So all that time and effort and you saved nearly £3.
As Morty says, not worth the hassle. Save building looms for RVC's and other jobs!
-
Does anyone know the link to the MDI lead on ebay, the only lead I can find is one for about £40 once you include postage cost and that's from Germany. I haven't seen any for £25.

A saving is a saving, and with doing this I didn`t have to run a new cable from the head unit to the MDI position...
Also I did look for THIS mystical lead on eBay and couldn`t find it, and with me being a "I want it now" sort of person, decided it was quicker to make the bits instead....

I know the thread is old, but maybe somebody knows where I can get the plug for the end of the wiring harness from, the same one which is at the end of the CD changer. I would also like to make an adapter as I can not find anything on the internet. Thanks
-
I'll have a look on ETKA for you, when I get back from Tenerife ;)
-
i have never seen them on ebay for £25
