Title: Too much engine oil
Post by: Lyons on August 28, 2010, 06:45:51 pm
The oil light just came n saying check the level. It was just at the min so I topped it up about 1 litre.

Sadly I went too quickly and it's now about 3mm over the max, at the wrong end of the arrow!

Does this mean I need to drain done out? Does literally any amount extra mean bad news?

yes it does you can cause to much oil pressure causing it 2 blow oil seals and stuff

For such a small amount over the maximum I wouldn't worry too much, it will soon burn it off.  What are you calling the maximum?  You are allowed over the hatched area if you look at the maintenance booklet in the handbook.

3mm on the dipstick is not a small amount - I would suggest that you remove some of the oil as running the car with an excessive amount of oil can damage the cat.

I wouldn't worry too much tbh. As long as its not over the second mark you should be fine :happy2:

I too would drain some off.

Better to be safe than sorry and have to replace blown seals :happy2:
