Any one know of the gear ratios for the ed30 dsg, ie speed at 2500 (example) revs in each gear or something along those lines.
-
The VW official gearings for the 6 speed manual/DSG are ....
Man DSG
1 3.36 3.46
2 2.09 2.15
3 1.47 1.46
4 1.10 1.08
5 1.11 1.09
6 0.93 0.92
Final drive - 3.09, 3.14
so a quick calculation reveals that with a redline limiter of 7400rpm with a REVO stage 2+ car would give you a max (depending on BHP) of 178.7mph on 225/40/18 tyres
If you search online for gear ratio calculators like the one in the linky below there are a few which will give you the speeds for the ratio's :happy2:

John, have you actually looked carefully at those ratios - fifth gear allegedly has a taller ratio than forth, when it should be the otherway round. And no, you havn't made a typo, because I too have seen that mistake in genuine VW technical literature!

So what's the correct ratio?
What's more annoying is that I asked about vehicle speeds and gear changes over a year ago. This would have been useful back then.

I dunno, and I've NEVER been able to find out. The only sure fire way is to ask someone like VWR to physically count the number of teeth on each of the gear sets the next time they open one up for a Quaife install, then get your Casio FX100 out!

Maybe someone could note down the speed their car is traveling at say 2000 revs in each gear and then work it back.
I would guess that 6th gear is about a ratio of 2 ish ie for every 1000 revs = 20mph...

I've got quite a detailed spreadsheet of mph vs rpms (speedo mph and GPS mpg) in all gears - but I'm fooked if I know a way to 'reverse calculate' actual gear ratios - so if anyone else knows, let me know.
Oh, just to prove my earlier point, download this gear/speed calculator and see for yourselves - http://www.gearboxman.co.uk/inforatios.html

Are you able to post the spreadsheet and can work it out. guessing for every 100revs in 6th gear would be 2mph?
what kind of rpm are people doing at 70mph??

Yup, I've done a double take on it more than once, but like yourself I haven't found anything else that gives a correct ratio from an official source. :stupid:

You can't upload attachments on this forum - but lemme try sommat else.
EDIT: Bu&&&er - that didn't work either (wanted to paste a screen dump)!

OK, my figures: standard GTI, DSG, new 235/40 ZR18 Mich Pilot Sport 3s
At 3,000 rpm (first number is GPS, second is speedo indicated):
- 1st - 16/17
- 2nd - 25/27
- 3rd - 38/39
- 4th - 51/53
- 5th - 66/69
- 6th - 78/81
Any use? I also have figures with worn 225s.

Not 100% sure about the math as its been awhile since I last re-arranged a formula, but from your figures TT I make the DSG drive ratios:
1st, 4.51
2nd, 2.88
3rd, 1.89
4th, 1.41
5th, 1.09
6th, 0.92
I have used the following to calculate this, gear ratio equals tire circumference x engine speed divided by road speed equals gear ratio.
So with your tires 25.4 inch circumference divided by inch's in a mile = 0.0004008 miles per revolution
engine speed RPM x 60 for RPH = 180,000 RPH
0.0004008 x 180,000 = 72.144
divide this by vehicle velocity provides the gear ratio, and they seem to tally up with the miss print from VW with the 5th and 6th ratio's matching.

I did some more research on this. The VW ratios are correct. This is because 5th and 6th have a different final drive ratio on manual and dsg boxes! I know this is an old thread but every little helps!
