Title: New Edition (30) to the Family
Post by: steesh on August 30, 2010, 09:47:01 pm
Originally i was looking at R32's and S3's, but after speaking to a couple of gents off a local vw forum they suggested the Edition 30 Golf. Never considered it before but started to have a look around and liked what i saw.

I got this about three weeks ago and am really chuffed with it. I had to go to Cardiff to get it - bus, train, plane etc to get down. Left the house 9 am and didnt get back till 3.30am the next morning ( I live in Aberdeen ). Was an enjoyable trip back though. Thanks to Chris Teague (off here) for picking me up from the Airport and ferrying me about.

Chris already had added some extremely tatseful mods such as remap and bigger brakes so ticked the boxes for me  :happy2:

The MPG is on par with the Leon i had, which the R32 would never get near.

Comes with Sat Nav, MFSW, Winter Pack blah, blah

Didnt take long to start fettling with it, treated it to some VW racing springs and and panel filter.

Shout out to the guys at VW Racing, very helpful, willing to do a deal and super fast delivery. The ride has sufficiently stiffened up and the height is as exactly as i wanted it, for the shizzle roads around here.

Next up probably an Anti lift Kit as its a bit lively through the front wheels, exhaust and RNS 510. Oh and 10mm spacers for the rear

Some iphone pics until i get it properly cleaned and find my camera

Love the car in steel grey, looks very classy. I'm after a 3 door pref DSG in grey myself!

Thanks to all for the positive comments  :happy2:

To be honest i enjoyed the trip down - only cost £75 to get down includes plane and train. There was little for sale in the way of ED30's up here, and there is always a "special tax" in aberdeen that seems to be put on alot of cars.

If you are willing to travel for the right car then you get the deal you are happy with.

So far no issues apart from being busy at work so dont get much time to drive/tweak it.

Thought i would up date this - not had a chance to do anything much else to the car. Did have a rolling road day yesterday with another forum.

Pretty happy with it - now has me looking at more mods to increase BHP. Had a rough idea how much it was going to put out but still pleseantly surprised, the increase with just the revo map and a vwr panel filter.

Hi Steve, loveley car and hope that you are enjoying it.

Have you fitted the Anti Lift Kit yet?  Really interested in what difference it makes to a mapped Ed 30 and how much it helps with getting the power down in lower gears, and general handling.

Thanks,

csman

Been nearly a year since i updated this so here goes

Car stayed as was for a good while as was really happy with it - then i got a hankering for something new, had a look round but nothing really took my fancy so decided to invest a little in the golf for now.

Engine wise i added a non res milltek cat back system - changed the tailpipes to the larger Ed30 ones - much better
Need to adjust the way the back box sits.

Also added a Dbilas intake - very well made and was pretty happy with it but the filter set up at the end is a bit crap and weighs a ton - kept the pipework on but put on a pipercross foam filter on the end - it got some good write ups so see how it goes. Changed to the Diverter to the Rev D piston type to be on the safe side since its at stage 1 - other than that it got the coils done on the recall and all in all it turns a fair pace

Today was a rare sunny day so took some snaps since i fitted the 19's - wasn't sure to begin with but they are growing on me. I think they get a bit lost since they pretty much colour match the car. Make the front brakes look small now. Need to sort out the cap gor the locking wheel stud - the audi ones dont fit but the others are fine

The cars already lowered but i think it would benfit from coilovers to get it sitting right. Exterior updates include
US spec grille - wrapped in carbon by rood signs - i also colour coded the grill strip, removed the GTI badge and fitted an edition 30 badge instead. Really like this look just need the splitter repaineted as its got stonechipped. Shortened plate goes back on the usual palce - had it in the dash and down below, looked pish in both place tbh. Also debadged the rear.

My photo skills are crap, but the car is getting there - even had a guy interested in buying it while i was taking the photos!

Any comments welcome

Love it! Some real tasteful mods. I'm a big fan of the wheels, but then I've always liked CKs.
